.
Curious... how do these compare to the 880's I recently bought? I'm new buying any "nice" headphones. As far as I can tell they are both open & 250ohm. Have you tried both? Should I return the 880's and go with this bundle? I haven't opened my 880's yet as I'm waiting to get an amp.

880 are semi open but i consider them open. 990 are open
880s are considered most neutral of their 770/880/990

many feel 990 are more 'fun', as in little more warm, little more bass, and so on

Ehhh I don't know if I'd want to use these headphones for monitoring in the field. There's a LOT of presence thanks to an upper range spike that starts at 6 kHz and hits +7 dB in the ball park of 8.5 kHz. They're sharp sounding, and I wonder if that'll cause people to set their input volumes lower than appropriate.

The 880s are better from a reference standpoint. Not saying the 990s are bad, but you made the right choice. Open 'em up and have a listen. Don't wait for the amp. It'll give you a nice reference point for when your amp arrives, plus you are gonna wanna break them in for a few hours.
