I use eBay occasionally and thankfully...haven't had any problems over the years. Until now. Frown

I ordered a bracelet that was indicated to be 925 sterling silver.

It is NOT sterling silver. I can tell by examining it, and I happened to be picking up an item at my jeweler that was being repaired, and they confirmed for me - not sterling silver.

I sent refund request message to the seller saying that the item was 'not as described' and requested a full refund.

They wrote back saying that '...their seller said it was silver". Not sure what that means, except maybe they mean their supplier? They told me they'd give me half of my purchase price back.

Since I had opened a refund request w/eBay, when I looked at the messages btwn myself and the seller, there was message at the top of the screen indicating that after so many days, I could contact eBay for help if I didn't get a resolution.

I don't want 50% of my purchase price back, I want 100% of my purchase price back. I don't feel I should pay for return shipping - since this item is NOT as described.

Enough days had passed, that I was now able to contact eBay for help, I did...filled out the text window and tried to send it. I get a message error saying I am trying to perform a task that I am ineligible to perform.

Can I dispute this with PayPal? Would that be a better way to go? I have a feeling I'm just going to be out the $...argh. Frustrated.

Did you use a credit card through PayPal? Most credit card companies are incredibly helpful in resolving disputes.

I have disputed things through eBay and PayPal before. Eventually made it through but they're about as slow, difficult, and unhelpful as it gets. I think all their tools are deliberately broken to make you miserable enough to give up. Try emailing them.

Here are your steps:

1. Contact seller, ask for refund + return shipping (you did, they wont)
2. Contact eBay, open dispute for item not as described (you did, they disagree?)
3. Open a case with paypal - call them up if you can, as you've got a better chance
4. If that doesn't work, contact your Credit Card company and file a chargeback, explaining the situation.

You'll get your money back, just a matter of how much effort.

I did use a credit card w/PayPal...okay, that's good to know. I feel a little better now.

Thank you so much! Repped! Smilie

I agree that eBay and PayPal don't make it very easy to request refunds! Argh! It's totally frustrating!

Most likely eBay will rule in your favor, I wouldn't stress over it. You may even get a refund and get to keep the item if the seller won't budge...seen it happen, it's not right(in my opinion) but that's how eBay works.
