Thread Details

I realize there was a thread about this just two weeks ago, and I apologize for the redundancy.

However- I'm in a need to use the same phone plan through about a dozen locations, each being about 3-4 days, so I can't signup with a provider in just one country as suggested in the other thread.

I'd like data & actual phone (although JUST data is ok). I loved using a Doodad a few years ago, but unfortunately they shut down.

Countries: France, Spain (ibiza), Sweden, Denmark, Norway, England, Scotland, Ireland, Switzerland, Monaco, Portugal.. I think that's all.

We've an AT&T phone and a Verizon phone. Wooo...

Thanks for any and all input! Smilie

Assuming you don't need high speed data- Get a T-mobile tablet data only card, should be like 20 bucks a month, no contract.

You'll need to activate it in a tablet in the US, should just take a couple minutes, but then you can move to your unlocked AT&T phone and you'll get unlimited, but slow, data, in 120 countries including just about everywhere in europe.

From reports the data speed is good enough for google maps if you don't mind waiting a minute or two for initial loading, even good enough for skype voice calls, and certainly good enough for stuff like email.... you won't be streaming video or anything with it though.

What a weird combination hah. Thanks a ton though- I'll look into it. If you've any other info on this / sources, it'd be much appreciated. Smilie

I think you would start here-
http://www.t-mobile.com/landing/b...ablet.html

Now- used to be you'd have to pick a tablet you not only had access to, but had the SAME size sim as your phone. But it's even easier now.

Just scroll down to Get started with a 3-in-1 data SIM and click Get Started.

This will get you a nano-sim that includes adapters for the 2 larger SIM sizes.

The next page informs you you'll be getting 1GB of data a month for use in the US , Canada, and Mexico.

It also notes "Unlimited data when you travel to any of 120+ countries and destinations so you can stay connected when you’re abroad."

As far as I know you will still need to active the SIM initially in an actual tablet in the US, but can then move it to the phone. Haven't tried it in person yet, but a number of folks online mention doing so and I"m going to be trying it myself here soon.

Yup it can.

The 'catch' is it's slow 2G speeds.... (they don't guarantee anything faster than 128k/s though some folks have reported getting better than that in some parts of some countries)

Which as I say appears to be "fast enough" for things like checking email, using google maps, or even skype voice-only calls.... which is all most people traveling a few days in a country really need.

But you're probably not gonna be watching movies via netflix or playing a FPS online or anything.... and if you need a FAST connection for work stuff it's also not the way to go.

I'm just wondering what each of you ended up doing? Traveling soon to multiple countries, including most of the ones already mentioned. My search might not have worked correctly, but this is the first thread that came up when I searched.

TIA

If you have att, just add their international calling and data plan for around $30 month and cancel it when you get back .
