Thread Details

New device from the cool hackers on the interwebz. Device costs about $55, with the ability to store up to 200 Amiibos. They can be yours or one you downloaded from the Internet. Using the Android app you can select what amiibo it is. Then use it in your favorite game. Bye bye over priced Amiibos!

Note: I don't buy any Amiibos. To me a toy that is supposed to enhance a game, but has been under produced for the demand for the last 4 releases, is a stupid thing.

You can upload your own Amiibos, so instead of carrying around dozens you can have them all in 1 nice package.

And it's not exactly piracy if the things aren't even available. Nintendo themselves apologized earlier this year for not making enough for the demand. And what do they do to correct the issue? Keep making too little for the demand. If you don't preorder an Amiibo 6 months in advance on Amazon you're not getting it.

An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject.
The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

You couldn't give Nintendo the money if you wanted. All the splatoon amiibo from legit sources are sold out. Your only option are price gouging importers or ebay sellers. Same goes for 90% of smash Bros characters

Lack of supply due to demand does negate the fact you're stealing them. Sorry. And isn't half the point of playing this type of game collecting the cool little characters?

Kyle: Dude! I almost thought those Afghani kids talked you into not liking America.
Stan: No, dude. America may have some problems, but it's our home. Our team. And if you don't wanna root for your team, then you should get the hell out of the stadium.
Kyle: Yeah.
Stan: <salutes the American flag> Go America.
Kyle: <salutes> Go America...
Stan: Go Broncos
Kyle: Yeah go Broncos.

I just knew they were gaming-related figures and people sure liked trying to buy and sell them! So they're like Nintendo Skylanders or something?

Yeah, i think its like disney infinity and skylanders - youd think half the fun was trying to get rare ones etc?

I never understood why people actually paid for those things. The craze over such worthless items never ceases to astound me. Nintendo should be making games rather than plastic figurines. Sad that they have made so much money on these things that they are likely going to try to do it again everywhere they can.

I am rather surprised that these haven't been hacked or spoofed long before now.

Except the fun stops when amiibos add something exclusive, and sometimes beneficial to the gameplay, and you can't get one unless you pay $50+ for something that is MSRP of $15. A prime example is the Splatoon ones. The Amiibos give you better gear than you can get in game, and these items are locked to only those who have the Amiibo. It wouldn't be so bad if it was DLC that everyone had a chance to get. But they are rare and if you aren't willing to pay 4x what they're worth then you are at a disadvantage. Or if you really love Super Smash Bros and want to get your favorite character the same thing applies. You are SOL. There are some Amiibos that are 8+ months old now, and even though Nintendo has apologized several times and promised to increase production, they obviously are not doing enough.

They have been, but the "ethical" hackers haven't released them publicly.

Who moved my cheese?

Why should nintendo be making games rather than plastic figures? Because they want to make less money? (BTW, very separate divisions.)
