Core i5 version of the earlier Core M based ASUS Zenbook UX305 for $749 for pre-order @ Amazon.Core M version seems very weak even though its $50 cheaper. Core M processor base frequency of 800MHz and graphics base frequency of 100MHz vs Core i5 processor base frequency of 2.2GHz and graphics base frequency of 300MHz. MHz is not everything but the base frequency on Core M is quite low in the name of power savings.

Probably because its a rwpost... I just did a search to get back to the amazon page since I switched devices and noticed that it was posted over 12 hrs earlier.. I think IF you need something like this now it's a good price for what you get. I'm personally tempted to purchase one myself... No touchscreen is good for me.. I kind of want a acklit keyboard though :'( ram8gb.. 256ssd plenty

The UX305FA (Core M) is fanless. Haven't known exactly what ASUS does to cool UX305LA (Core i5) since UX305LA is about the same weight as UX305FA but is distinguishably lighter than the fan-cooled UX303. It has been said likely fanless again for UX305LA and that would be aggressive. Even Core M gets heated to 80C with fanless.

Check out the Asus Vivobook X202E-DH31T 11.6" i3 CPU laptop with only 2.9lbs for sale like $250 NEW on ebay. Why buy this zenbook for $700.
Completely different? Newer processor, i5 vs i3, SSD, 8GB, 13", lighter, Full HD

That is why it costed $749.99 for zen. For Asus, you can put in SSD easily and sacrify a little bit to save $500. zen weights 2.7 lbs; but Asus not bad with 2.9lbs. If me, I would go for Asus to save $500. The screen is the only thing I don't like 13.3" is better; but not 11.6" for me.

If you want the Vivobook get the Vivobook, but it's not a comparable machine to the Zenbook. It's not "sacrificing a little bit to save $500." For people who want what the Zenbook offers it would be an unacceptable compromise.

You get an i3 instead of an i5, you get a spinning HD instead of SSD, you have only 4GB of nonupgradeable RAM, and most importantly you have an 11" 1366x768 screen versus a 13" 1920x1080 screen!

Doesn't make the Vivobook a bad deal at its price, but it's like comparing a Chromebook and a Macbook Air. Different machines for different users.
