B&H has the 5TB WD Elements External Desktop Hard Disk Drive for $129.99 + FS.

I bought one few months ago, and these are great for storage! Note, you may receive either a RED or GREEN drive when you open up these up to use internally on your machine, as far as I know. There are ways to convert a GREEN drive to RED drive. You'll have to Google this one.

COLOR INFO (thanks calisurfboy)::
Green - Mass storage with low power consumption
Red - 24/7 NAS access
Black - High speed access for gaming
Blue - General purpose internal computer drive
Purple - 24/7 surveillance camera recording
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Run app, look at the device model.
  • WD Red WD50EFRX
  • WD Green WD50EZRX

You CANNOT check whether it is a Green or a Red before opening using DCM info.

I want just to share i got one from B&H from this deal, and the box DCM was DCADBAC but the hard drive inside the enclosure was GREEN. So this is not the rule. dont go by that alone or you will be disappointed if you are expecting a RED drive inside. Any one else has received drives from b&h from this current deal with RED drives. or they are sending all GREEN this time.?

Wish this was an internal. Anyone have experience taking out the HDD from the enclosure with success? Does it void the warranty?

yes, i believe these are the same that TigerDirect was selling (and B&H) and many of them had WD Reds in them. (highly YMMV).

i believe it does void the warranty though

this link seem to be reliable and other forums linked to it: http://forums.ncix.com/forums/?mo...1361746021

there is a YT video that goes through similar steps but does a different command and this post warns against using that 'disable' command used in the video, but just to change some timeout delay to get the same effect.

I ordered up 4 of these on the last deal and got all NAS RED drives. I've been waiting for this deal to come back around and it's super easy to take these apart.

Thanks op
