Editor's Notes & Price Research
Refer to forum thread for additional discussion about this Phone. - brisar
$10 off coupon may work in-store:
YMMV - coupon doesn't deduct any money from the price and the SA will need to manually adjust the price.
EDITED - Check the HEX and DEC MEIDs for RingPlus and also check the ICCID number.
Also works on Ring+ as many posters have said, it's recommended to activate on Ring+ BEFORE you turn on your phone." -QuickStriker
UNLOCKING THIS DEVICE: Sprint's Unlocking Policy makes NO mention if non-customers can unlock this device for either domestic or international use (each is a separate process). It is recommended that you call Sprint's Tech Support and double check whether or not a non-Sprint customer can unlock this device.
Unless somebody offers other evidence, you can assume that is locked to Sprint Pre-Paid and will not work on other carriers or MNVO in the USA, including Sprint Post-Paid. If you're currently locked into a Sprint contract, this phone cannot be used to replace your current phone as those are two-different networks.
It might be usable on foreign networks:
Volt has these, Moto E does not:
Volt has LED Flash / Flashlight
Volt has LED notification light
Volt has infrared remote capability (albeit limited)
Volt has .2" larger display +
Volt Navigation buttons don't take up display space
Volt has Longer life battery & does last longer
Volt has 1080p 8 MP camera
Volt has NFC
Volt has compass
Has newer version of Android (if that matters to you).
More likely to officially support next version of Android
Has "active notifications"
Has light sensor that dims display based on lighting
Softer touch feel - less plastic feeling
- Although the Moto E only has a slightly better processor, it scores much better compared to the Volt in Basemark OSII, Geekbench and PCMark.
If you are having problems activating the phone (i.e. can't make or receive calls):
try updating the PRL, instructions at https://ringplus.net/help/
If you get an authentication error when "Update PRL" you might have to wait a few hours (8+ hours overnight) for RingPlus to forward your ESN/IMEI number to Sprint, then the authentication error should go away.
Immediate fix for AUTHENTICATION error during attempt to do hands free activation which results in failure to update PRL and Profile:
