cast to device

Using cast to device with windows 10 to play some mkv files... when I do it, the video plays fine, but I can't figure out how to change options such as turning the subtitles off... also, if I fast forward the movie on my pc it goes to the right place on the tv, but the sound is off... like the voices are lower, deeper and slower.

any ideas on how to change the setting for things like subtitles? thanks.

also, any way to use cast to device with chromecast? I've been using it so far just with my smart tv...

I would try using the chromecast extension for chrome to cast your whole desktop, and then use whichever player (I use VLC) to play it with whatever subtitles and settings that you want - for more basic settings you could probably get by using chrome itself to play it

Another option is that you can use Chromecast to play the videos itself rather than streaming them from your PC. This is a bit more of a project, but if you do this often (or want a project), it's a pretty nice setup once you've got it going.

The app I use is BubbleUPNP ( It can play videos from any UPNP/DLNA server as well as a bunch of other places. There's a link to a UPNP server in the app description that handles reencoding formats the Chromecast doesn't handle natively. Also supports subtitles.

A lot of people also like Plex for this sort of thing, which might be a bit more user friendly to setup, but I forget how much they include in their free product.
