Need Help: Forgotten Admin password on Windows 7

ludhianvi 1,592 443 August 30, 2015 at 10:17 PM
Hello Experts:

I have forgotten the admin password on my dad's Lenovo Windows 7 computer. I set-up the system for him and I thought I had saved the admin password, but apparently I was careless this time Frown.

Now, I need to install some softwares and do some other changes, but due to forgotten admin password, I can't do anything. Is there a way to reset the admin password? If yes, how? I googled for resetting admin password, and learned about wimware password recovery tool. Just wanted to check with experts here to see if that is what I need to use or there are other better, more secure options?

I have access to a MacBook and a Windows XP laptop if that helps.

Thanks in advance.

http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/

Stick that on a USB drive, boot from it, follow the prompts and you're done

did you try blanking the password
did you choose the correct partition
did you select "y" to write/save the changes

Thanks for the link. Problem is that I don't have the installation cd, lenovo never sent one. They just install the software on a different partition.

No other copy of windows 7 on hand. Problem is I am in India and all my stuff is in US.

For now, I have given the laptop to my cousin who has a computer shop here, hopefully his techs will be able to fix this. If not, we might have to reinstall everything (my last option).

This has always worked for me but if you don't save the changes you'll be in the same boat. This sounds like the issue.

I've had 100% success rate with Hiren's but every time I lend it to someone and they can't get it to work this is the case.

I agree Hiren's any flavor of it from 5 up works perfectly to reset any accounts password. If the OP did try Hiren's I believe that he did not follow the instructions.EEK!

I did save the changes, but somehow things didn't work out.

But I am all set now as my cousin was able to unlock the account.

Thanks for the help everyone.
