purchasing and deploying Internet of Things (IoT) solutions in building and
industrial automation environments. By definition the Internet of Things
denotes "assets" such as HVAC units, chillers, pumps, sensors, shipping
crates and so forth being connected to the internet, either directly or by
way of devices such as gateways. Data collected from these assets are
aggregated, visualized, analyzed, and acted upon, with benefits including
improved efficiency, safety, or user experience. An asset, or "thing," in
this case would not be a tablet, phone or computer connected to the internet
using an application as a soft-sensor. In some cases programmable logic
controllers, or PLCs, that are not connected to the internet may be used
today with thoughts of migrating these solutions to true Internet of Things
solutions in the future. The study will include focus groups and interviews
that will help the manufacturer sponsoring the focus groups design and
market IoT solutions.
This study is being done via webcam on Tuesday, 9/1/2012 5:30pm-7:30pm EDT.
