Safe for apartment (fireproof/water resistant)

Zodiac 1,777 792 September 3, 2015 at 10:16 AM
Hi,

I am currently looking for a deal for a safe under $200 (the cheaper the better) for a safe in my apartment. I am not so much worried about theft as I am about water/fire damage.

I am looking to put in it the following: important documents (social security card, birth certificate, passport, etc...), a handgun, some ammo and other various things that I might think of (credit cards I don't use, etc..).

I'm not sure what exactly I should be looking for other than being fireproof for as long as possible and water resistant under my budget (I'd prefer to stay between $100 and $150).

Thanks.

I've had a Sentry biometrics safe and returned it because I got weary of getting locked out due to the fancy fingerprint reader. I went, instead, with a tried-and-true, old-fashioned combination lock safe - also by Sentry - and now I get in every time without fail.

This [amazon.com] is the one I own.

Also, consider disguising it somehow so as to make it less obvious that it's a safe. Not even knowing a safe exists in your home makes it much less likely that anyone will be able to find it to even try to break in it or steal it.
