Above fireplace TV mount that pulls down and out

kmoff77 1,824 334 September 4, 2015 at 06:28 PM
I'm looking to mount a TV in the brick above my fireplace. It will be mounted somewhat high, so I would really like the option to pull the TV out and downward in front of the fireplace, when it is not in use. I have googled and found a couple but they are all around $400.

Does anyone have any experience with this, or know any suggestions? It would be greatly appreciated. Here are some of the examples I found online.

Hey kmoff77, I may be late to the game but I found myself to be in a similar situation as you. If you're not already set, you may want to check out this latest Groupon [groupon.com]deal.

Now you can save 25% off! If you don't have a Groupon account feel free to use my referral link [groupon.com].

If you have a moment I'd love to learn about what you ended up doing. I'm looking at the same 2 mounts.

Ok, that thing looks pretty sweet although admittedly I don't really know if I see the need for one. You want it so that you can mount your TV above the fireplace but not have to look up that high if the fire place isn't on or something?

I don't think it'll go all the way down in front of your fireplace though. I mean it's not like it's going to put the TV on the floor or anything. Not sure if that is what you meant.

For that much movement $400 frankly doesn't sound like that bad of a deal for a decent sized TV although the Groupon sounds even better. Make sure to use a shopping portal to save even a few more $$ Big Grin

They are pricey, but I think it will be worth it to save our necks when we aren't using the fireplace. I am going to check out the Groupon deal.

Everyone by now has a Groupon account I think, but if not they used to give you a $10 bonus off your first purchase if you signed up via a referral link. I know that they give $10 to the referrer as well but I can't tell if this policy of $10 to both parties still exists or not. Anyways, PM me if you need a referral link to try it out.

I can tell from personal experience that the height coupled with a not so perfect couch can lead to neck discomfort if not pain if you are watching like this for a long time.

Depending on the mounting height and the depth of the mantel you can actually get it to drop not to the ground but a decent amount so that the center of the TV screen is at or close to eye level if you were sitting back on a standard couch. If you're slouching that's a whole different story.
