Thread Details

I have two dual shock controllers and the battery life sucks on both. Anyone else facing this issue? i was looking for some option to add more battery to my controllers, like an extra battery attachment.

Yes. This entire console generation took a step backwards.
The DS4 controllers have horrible battery. You can get somewhat better life by going to the controller options and turning down the stupid light. Other than that, Nyko makes an extended battery attachment. You can get it on Amazon or your local game store for about $13. It about doubles the battery life. Not much else you can do.

PS4 requires you to pay for online use. It doesn't have any 3rd party controllers. It has a really stupid controller design. It took away the universal bluetooth compatibility the PS3 had, so now the only way to get a truly wireless headset is to buy their 1st party junk. About the only thing the PS4 has going for it is the better hardware compared to an Xbox One.

It would seem your DS4s are functioning properly. I've had mine less than a week, and it's been immediately obvious how much worse the battery life is. Fortunately I have a convenient outlet and plenty of chargers around from various phones, so I can plug in and keep playing.

Yep, been that way since launch. I bought a second controller for this reason.

I'm glad I haven't upgraded yet then. Between the horrible battery life on the controllers to the rubber on the thumbsticks wearing out within 6 months in some cases to any technical issues and/or failures I'm glad I'm still on the PS3.

Although I think the Dual Shock 3 I'm using now(got it from Kmart for around $12) is having the rubber wearing out on the left thumbstick already.

He lives near me. A couple years ago, he bought five copies of a game on clearance at target closest to me. Bragged about it here then soon found out the trade value wasn't worth a 'flip'. When I called him on it for being a scumbag for buying out the stock, he PM'ed me and told me he would now purposely return them to a target far away from me so I can't get a copy for myself.
Whine more, please.

AFAIK the PS4 thumbsticks and technical issues have all been resolved for some time now.

I've been using the same DS3s for years and haven't worn out the rubber, so YMMV?

The older Dual Shock 3's seem like they were made better. The one I had from the slim PS3's I've had I had NO issues with. But the one that came with my super slim PS3 had nothing but issues. The standard USB to mini USB charging cables would NOT fit the mini USB slot on the controller AT ALL unless you used a lil extra force getting it in there. What that did over time was caused the connector inside the controller to push down into the controller itself.

Eventually the controller wouldn't even charge since nothing was making a connection.

The one I'm currently using was one of the ones in the cardboard and plastic newer type packaging. It too for some reason won't connect with the standard charging cables. I'm talking about the charging cable that comes with the console. I even tried a Sony branded one from an HDMI/charging cable 2 pack that was new/sealed. Same problem.

I'm actually using a cable that came with my digital camera to charge it now. It works with no issues.

I never had any issues with the older ones. But these newer controllers just feel lighter and seem to be made cheaper than the other ones. At least that's how I see it.

Rubber wore down on both of mine DS4s. Easy enough to fix with a couple of $2 replacements off amazon though. If only the battery life problem was as easy and as cheap to fix.

I have been keeping my eye out for a aftermarket, larger battery to replace in the controller. Nothing better so far it seems. No idea why it is so terrible in the battery department. Turned off the speaker but there are sadly no options to kill the light. Turning off rumble where possible may help, but wasn't necessary on the PS3.

Newer Bluetooth standards are supposed to conserve power better, no idea how Sony managed to make this worse. It seems to follow the Sony standard of "It only does less than before."

Kyle: Dude! I almost thought those Afghani kids talked you into not liking America.
Stan: No, dude. America may have some problems, but it's our home. Our team. And if you don't wanna root for your team, then you should get the hell out of the stadium.
Kyle: Yeah.

Well, since they finally added a Media Player, maybe in another year or two they'll figure out that people do care about the battery life thing.

Third party replacement batteries? I know some recommend using a higher rating battery in the Dual Shock 3's to extend the battery life.

Not to mention the batteries in those are plug and play(aka they have an actual connector as opposed to having to solder the MF'ers in) so that makes things leagues easier.

Isn't it the light on the DS4 that the PS4 'sees' for any motion control portions of games?

Yes, but how many of us actually play those games?

Yes, and it is completely unnecessary for every game I own. Especially since I don't even own the camera for it.
