How can I tell if a Steam game has adult language or blood?

Thread Details

I come from a Sega Genesis background, so I'm used to the age ratings on the games. However, I'm still trying to figure out how to tell BEFORE buying whether a game has adult language or blood. I recently bought a well reviewed side scrolling shooter after reading a number of reviews. 2 of my kids love these.

Well, the first thing that came up was adult language in the game intro, so I uninstalled it. Is there any way to easily tell at a glance on Steam whether a game has adult language or blood in it? So far I haven't found anything like that which will keep me from wasting money like this....

On the Steam website, no.
On the Steam program, on the right side beneath the game details about the Languages it supports is a content rating box.

Other than that I say a little language won't hurt them. They're going to learn it in school anyway.

An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject.
The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

Steam games have ratings. Just as Novakingwai said. They usually follow the www.pegi.info rating.

Scroll down to just past the Metacritic score on the right side, and it's there...

Oh wait nevermind I see it now. It still shows on mine right beneath the Languages section.

And I swore it wasn't there at all. I looked. Gaben must be reading our comments, improving Steam. Half Life 3 confirmed.

You need to tell him that it is currently unavailable then it will be added next time you refresh. That is what we have been doing wrong all these years.

Gaben, Half Life 3 is currently unavailable on Steam. I can't access it on the store page.

Not that it matters, but are we waiting for Half Life 3 or Half Life 2: Episode 3?

Seems like if they really meant for it to only have 2 episodes they would have named it Parts 1 and 2 rather than episodes.

Meh, I don't even care about Half Life. It's an extremely over hyped game.

I liked the first one and I think it did a lot for the evolution of the FPS. HL2 was just pretty for the time that it came out.

It never captured me and I found the second episode to be little more than a weekend effort by Valve to act like they still cared.

Clicked through that quickly and I can agree. At this point Valve wouldn't want to get BioWare levels of hate for a bad game and they also don't want to get Duke Nukem Forever dev hell and expectations.

I also figured it was more based on Valves supposed system where people simply work on what they want to. This can't be completely true, but I can see lots of issues with people wandering in and out of development without any kind of commitment or cohesion.

Given that Valve has tasted the sweet nectar of free money in microtransactions like many other companies we should be amazed that they even try to make anything anymore.
