So what functionality were you hoping to have that an unrooted phone is simply out of the question? There seem to be more apps that *lose* proper functionality from rooted phones than whatever benefits you get from rooting.

Yea, none of those are worth rooting your phone for. Too many banking apps and TV apps detect for root and stop working. Finding workarounds for that, and every time you want to update, aint worth it.

hmm I agree with bobloadmire. root is a deal breaker for me. endless tweaking. none of my bank apps have stopped working.

I don't think it is question of NOW, but for LATER.

Phones without any dev support will die off quickly after the carrier/manufacturer lose interest after new model comes out.

Nexus 4 came out in 2012 yet it was updated with Lolipop.
Even if it does not get "Official" release, there is a good chance that "M" may be ported to it.

With no root and bootloader locked, there is no chance once manufacturer moves on.

One thing is that they should unlock bootloader for any phones that are discontinued, but I KNOW it won't happen since by locking bootloader, no new update can be put in thus making people HAVE to upgrade.

The xda community is pretty dead now. All those new phones lack developer support.

If you care so much about rooting and rom, you can forget about buying any phones but Nexus series.
