Greetings and welcome to the Travel forum! To effectively offer advice, please let us know your departure city. Leaving from LAX is very very different than leaving from New York for trans-Pacific flights

In the end, we won't be able to magically procure you a special deal. Since flight prices can fluctuate hourly, your best bet is to be hyper vigilant and use a site like Kayak.com or SkyScanner.com to set up email alerts on flights to Narita from your local airports.

Yeah, can also use priceline.com. But to be careful, you can not get a refund from the ticket.

If you are flying out of Boston, Air Canada has a really good fare right now in November between $780-825, but they are TWO stops each way so total travel time each way is 20-30 hours.

If price is your absolute most important thing, this is your best option - I've never flown Air Canada, so can't comment on their service/fleet. It is *extremely* unlikely that you will get a cheaper price than this in such a short timeframe.

The cheapest 1 stop roundtrip from Boston is about $1,100 on Singapore Air. Singapore is EXCELLENT on service, but long layovers still make this trip over 24 hours each way flight time.

Given all this, you should strongly consider traveling to NY first and looking for flights there. Besides Japan Air Flight 007 (which is $1,800+ roundtrip), there are not a lot of options to Tokyo from Boston.

NY is a good suggestion, although I've never had a problem with Air Canada. However, the price difference may not be significant enough to offset the drive to NY. We've traveled to NY for quite a few flights with significant savings -- usually 3 or 4 of us traveling and savings of $200 or more per person.

If you do decide to look at flying out of New York, use NYC and TYO for airport codes -- it will give you all the NY area airports (LaGuardia, JFK, Newark NJ) and all the Tokyo area airports (this method may give you a flight from Newark to Narita, then back to JFK -- so check the details). I came up with $740 with really nasty travel time -- over 30 hours.

Dude, watch for the flood, I bought China eastern lax/net return for 514$ for a week . I am supposed to leave today but ditched the trip, can't afford to extend or miss any return flights. Remember Fukushima?
