I know nothing of this announcement, but Apples history does not give me any hope of them ever creating a console that would be good.

They can make a decent OS and convince people to buy some devices but I doubt any AAA dev would jump in on that.

An Apple console would cost at least $1100 for the most basic model.

No one cares that you saved an extra nickel on this same deal back in 2007. If it doesn't apply to the current deal, please keep it to yourself. Tumbleweed

Yeah, this cracked me up. I generally like Apple (I use a powerbook and have an iphone) but it was embarrassing how many things they stole directly from Microsoft.

Outright copying ideas I can deal with. Not exactly innovative but if someone grabs the fumbled idea and makes it further down the field with the customer wins.

Issue I have is when ideas or only accepted when Apple throws them out there.

Their users (and reviewers) mocked the phablet phones such as the Note when it came out. Then when Apple tosses out the larger iphones suddenly it is innovative. Same goes with the smaller that 10 inch tablets for less money. For a while the ipad mini was absolutely never happening and apple users mocked those low cost tiny tablets.

I honestly don't love or hate apple or any other OS/manufacturer out there. I could care less about the OS as long as it runs what I want. In terms of this need, Apple computers are worthless to me. If all I needed on a daily basis was a browser I would just use Linux due to it being free and more secure. Linux actually has more support than Apple at this point for my needs.

In terms of phones, I use Android not due to loving it (I actually actively despise much of that OS) but due to the usability of it. I dislike all of apples online services and I dislike being tied to them. I also believe that ITunes is the worst product that humanity has ever unleashed upon itself. Android lets me sideload what I want, run applications that Apple won't let iphone owners use and allows me to simply plug into ANY OS without special software to do something.

That said, any console Apple makes will cost 2-3X as much as it should and would have such a stifling development base and sales model that it will just not take off. I expect something more involved that Angry Birds or Candy Crush from a console and I don't think Apple can manage to convince developers to alienate a huge number of people to make their console viable as a true option to make the multimillion dollar development risk worthwhile.

Apple just does it better. They make great consumer products and let us not forget every smart phone had a physical keyboard before the iPhone. Steve jobs wasn't always right for the business - it was him curtailing screen size - but screens have also improved - resolution and response so yeah an 6" phablet 5 yrs ago was shit. Don't get me started on androids none consistent os - versions all over the place - even the same version on different hardware has issues when pushing mdm for corporate use. No thanks. I'll pay a premium for a vendor who is writing their own software for their own hardware.

I don't think their prices are as bad as people say -sure you can buy a shitty laptop for less but a high end laptop is pushing the same price as MacBook Pro.

The stylus has been around for years and so have keyboard cases so can't see how they copied Microsoft - but the apple pencil looks like the first stylus I've seen done right. Can't wait to try it.
I'm not an apple fan boy - sure I'll be called one - just their stuff works. I have no issues with iOS devices for corporate - I have surface 3 pro, it's pretty good but windows isn't a tablet os - so again iPad pro will likely surpass it in use.

I also don't think the new atv is expensive. It's beefed up for Siri and Siri has come on leaps and bounds. Home kit using voice actually works.

As for devs being stiffed? People have gotten rich thanks to all store. Also gaming content is huge for mobile(not for me thanks) and things like android consoles aren't good - maybe the atv will be better or not.

For me the best windows pc is a Mac.

Gotta call ya out on this one bud. The infamous apple thumb reach commercial wasn't 5 yrs ago, it was around 3 yrs ago. And screens were still very good at that time, with the Note 2 and Note 3 being some of the best displays available on the market. Apple finally caved by going to OLED on their watches, so it's only a matter of time before they give in and make the switch on their phones as well.

They make good products that appeal to a very wide demographic, but they also have made some head-scratching decisions. And as a company, they've been slow to innovate in some areas just like any other company.

The thing that I don't understand with MacBooks right now, is how do they still not have touch screens as an option?
