Loud ads on the main page are very annoying.

Not sure if this is the right place, but I really hate the loud ads on the main page that decide to start out of the blue after the main slickdeals.net page has been up for a while.

Not sure that it matters, but they are really annoying and make me close out of slickdeals.net rather than keep it opened so I can check back every so often.

I can be watching a video on youtube full screen or on another webpage reading something and then out of nowhere hear an ad and not know what is happening.

Just voicing my opinion and I couldn't find it anywhere else on here, so .. there it is.

Sorry again if this is the wrong place, I don't post in the forums ever.

Hi SlickerThanSnot,

If you're still experiencing this, could you please take a screenshot of the ad and let me know the click-through URL? That would help track it down and block the advertiser if it is indeed coming from Slickdeals. We do not allow any kind of intrusive ads.

Thanks.

doublewood..

Hi, it just happened and I was looking to see the ad that was doing it, but I didn't see anything moving. There was a blank ad, and as soon as that went away the sound stopped. It went away before I could click through since I wasn't sure if it was the right one or not.

It was for a Discover card, and the screen cap here was right after the blank ad went away, so it wasn't this ad, it was the one right before it. It didn't come up right away, like before, the page was just up in another tab, and then out of nowhere the audio came on.

Thanks for the info and screenshot. This is very helpful so appreciate you reporting it!

These type of obnoxious ads are unacceptable and we don't want them on Slickdeals. They sometimes, in rare instances, slip through the automated blocks. I will be able to find it and block it manually within the next hour.

Doublewood..

Hi again! I wasn't sure if you could help with this one too .. recently Avast antivirus has been throwing the following message whenever I browse on slickdeals. http://i.imgur.com/PQebD25.jpg

It appears as if something from slickdeals is trying to hit lijit.com and Avast is blocking it due to a revoked certificate.

It comes up pretty much on every page within slickdeals(no other sites), and wasn't sure if this was something that you are aware of.

Just in case I have scanned my whole system for viruses/malware using a few different programs with nothing to show for it, so it seems like something that may be on the slickdeals site side of things.

Please let me know if this is anything you are aware of or could assist with, thanks!

See my posts in this Tech Support thread regarding ligit. You'll probably want to run a clean-up on your browser and system.

Thanks!!

I hit save before I finished typing. I wasn't able to find the plugins when I had found that article to remove Lijit, and I know some places it is actually "legit" .. and my issue is relegated to when I am on slickdeals and no other site. I was wondering if this might be used by slickdeals to serve up their ads, and it might actually be a certificate issue.

What I didn't test is how it behaves with other browsers like IE or Firefox, which I will do.

Thanks again!

Thanks for reporting this! I'm aware of lijit.com and sent them an email about this. They operate a platform and sometimes bad stuff sneaks in.

We don't want it to affect user experience so I will make sure Lijit is removed until they're able to confirm with 100% certainty that this has been permanently fixed.

@Doublewood:

If SD is using ligit.com (sovrn.com) you might want to read both pages of this thread [digitalpoint.com] and have the admins reconsider using them.

It's definitely on our radar. Slickdeals would never work with any company that puts users at risk of getting malware or anything like that. The reason some publishers have trouble with networks like Lijit is because they don't have the proper blocks in place. We have an extensive list of blocks in place. Lijit is not currently running on SD anymore for the time-being and we would immediately block any advertiser or platform that is serving anything harmful.

Thanks again for the help doublewood and vorlonfrog! Hopefully that will be the last you hear from me about anything potentially bad Wink
