Looking for a Macbook deal under $1,000

Hi,

I'm not a mac (windows for life) user by all means so I'm really newb when it comes to knowing much about macbooks and stuff. My girlfriend's birthday is coming up in Nov. and I want to get her a Macbook for her birthday. I was researching on possibly a Macbook Air or a Macbook Pro. I think Macbook Pro is better? She doesn't need all the crazy spec's like an i7 however I would like the Macbook to have specs of a i3~i5. She uses it for normal browsing, school work and such. She doesn't need a 15.6" model so I think 13" will do. She will most likely carry in her purse so 15" would be overkill.

So my questions are Macbook Pro or Macbook Air? or would I be able to get a 2014+ model at my price range (1k) ? I've read on possibly some Bestbuy mover's coupon might work? or a EDU coupon?

Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thank you!nod
