Amazon currently has a trade in value for Destiny The Taken King for $34.
Destiny Taken King - Amazon [amazon.com]

This is a deal for those who already own the original game and bought this, or can buy the original game somewhere for cheap. The Destiny Taken King $60 retail version is the original year-one vanilla disc, plus a DLC code that gives you all expansions. YouTube unboxing videos are verifying this. Use the code, and trade it into Amazon for $34. That makes the cost of the expansion just $26 if you already own the original disc.

Before anyone gets mad... Companies do not expect any dlc or codes to work, nor do they test for them. When you buy used games, Amazon will tell you that any codes may be missing or already redeemed. (The only exception I've ever seen is GameFly, since they do not send boxes or paperwork to customers when renting). This is simply the case of Amazon, and possibly other retailers, not realizing that Destiny Taken King Legendary Edition is just a vanilla disc with a DLC. Some of the YouTube videos I've seen suggest that it's even the exact same disc, not even new artwork on it. Eventually comapnies will realize it, and substantially bring down the trade in value. For now, lock in those rates, if interested.

EDIT: Here is a summary, since OP is kind of wordy laugh out loud
Brett19648: He's saying buy a physical copy of the taken king (same disc, new artwork on box and a code to download any new content). Use code, immediately trade in the taken king game for $35 and keep your original destiny disc...

Confirmed by a reply below (thanks!)

Have you actually verified that the disc isn't different than the original one? I was just about to trade my Deluxe Edition in but if I can just redeem the code, sell the DLC, then send the disc & box back to Amazon...well ok then.

return at your own risk. I assume they could just send them back once they realize this.

Personally, my copy is out for delivery right now, but I'm locking in my rate since we get a week to ship. Anyone with the original disc already downloaded a huge 18gb update last week, and the intro start screen now says 'The Taken King'. This code is likely all we need. (I edited my post to reflect that it's not from personal use, but from reading threads and watching youtube unboxings - more of a heads up to lock in the rate before Amazon realizes they're just getting a disc and prettier box).

I plan to redeem the code anyway, so it will be easy to see if it just works with my original disc. Once 100% verified, savvy slickdealers not interested in the game may lock in this rate for $34, and sell separetely the taken king dlc, and profit laugh out loud That's too much for me though.

Sketchy and/or shady as heck IMO, hope some poor guy who doesn't know better doesn't get the short end of the stick here.

I locked in as well as it's being delivered tonight. I knew the past 2 DLC's were just codes but I had assumed that TTK was going to be a new disc. Getting TTK for 49.99 (with Prime), redeeming just TTK code, then selling both previous DLC's would result in making money...shady, but if that was what is in the actual box I'm not sure as to what Amazon would expect to receive. I guess the same could be said to them offering $22 for the deluxe edition of the first game. It's not like I wouldn't have redeemed the codes in that version either.

From what I've heard on YouTube, it is just a single code for all 3 expansions, unfortunately. And I say heard because no one on YouTube has shown the code on camera to verify this, for obvious reasons. So redeeming it would give us just the taken king since we own the other expansions, and likely kill the code.

Yeah, I just read that as well. Still, paying $10 bucks for TTK & the pre-order bonuses would be quite the deal.

When you guys receive the box today can you quote me on this post so I'm alerted on the answer? I'm locking in the trade in now too and I'll hit up Best Buy for 20% off the copy.

I agree. Everyone assumed that the new disc would have the new content on there to install. It sounded strange and lazy to repackage the original disc with a code, but so far it looks like this is what they did.

No matter if Amazon was offering $34 or $4 for it, some customers are going to get screwed either way. It will suck for any consumer who is choosing between a used copy of the original destiny, or a used copy of this new taken king edition without codes. They'll both be equal in content, but the price likely won't be.

Just ordered the pre-order on amazon for $49.99 and locked in my trade in for $33.47. Not a bad deal if it goes through. I don't have the previous DLC so this should be a great deal for me. Better than the gamestop deal and I don't have to leave the house. ?
