Notifications link is now taking me to the stupid newer view/look

ionizer 15,350 2,470 September 16, 2015 at 11:33 AM
Hi. when I get little notifications in the bottom right of my screen and click on them, it is now taking me to one of the "new views" rather than my default setting which is the classic SD everyone has known and loves.

When i hit "reply" on that new view, it does revert back to the classic view, but it is super annoying to have to see a view that is inconsistent with my settings when clicking a notification.

this has only changed in the past 2 days or so and was always fine for the past decade up until then.

Please advise if there is some new setting I can modify or if this is a bug?

thank you.

Can you post a screenshot? If you're correctly in classic it shouldn't be possible to get a "new view" at all.

Yes I can, but in order to do so, you need to reply to me as a quote so that it will show up in my notifications bottom right 'slide up window'. I will then show you:

Step 1: See classic page/ with bottom right notification
Step 2: Click notification (open in new tab function as i always do)
Step 3: See "new view" format
Step 4: click reply and see back to classic view.

I need to see the "new view" you're referring to though, in order to see what's going on Smilie

ok so odd, this time, just to be super straight, I left-clicked the notification area so that it wouldn't open in a new tab (normally what i do) and it went right to the normal view.

this leaves me to two more hunches we need to test out:
(1) Opening in new tab somehow causes the issue - please reply again quoting me
or
(2) The issue may only happen if the page in question is a "front page" deal - for this to happen we'll need to find a FP deal, have my respond and have you quote me

At this point, I can't replicate the issue, but need to try both scenario 1 and 2 above.

Please respond again and let's try scenario 1 replication which is my usual scenario, but I was trying to eliminate a new tab as a potential factor when I did it this time.

I'm going to assume the OP is talking about the FP view. I've been noticing that more lately.

Some popup notifications and especially the quote "" links don't have v=1 in them which results in the FP view on promoted topics.

Seems like a recent thing. I don't remember it being this common before so maybe something has changed recently?

Does it give you the "new" view you're referring to?

(Just tested the tab theory, that's not it, so it must be #2 as mentioned above)

your link - yes, yes it does. this view comes up as the person above you described, on random notification windows where I have been quoted. The only difference is that on notifications it brings me into a specific post, whereas your link brought me to the top..

this was never the case before and for people who only use classic view, it is annoying, b/c I have to hit the forum thread button to get back to the classic view

yes, exactly, this is something new i only saw in the past 2-7 days. Thank you for helping identify the link parameter.

In that case, that's not a new view, it's just the old FP view, as k84 suggested.

That is the intended behavior at this time, however we are discussing options, I believe.

are you slowly coercing people into the FP view when responding to notifications by hoping that if they were quoted they may be more likely to stick with the view and use it? Why?

Your forcing an extra click for someone to go back to the classic view we love.

Can you at least identify if this is something that has recently changed? I feel like it was and it doesn't make sense from a user work flow perspective. Switching to a FP view when responding to an existing thread is taking someone out of their normal end user process flow.

gotta run to play hockey, but ill check in later this evening Smilie

Forcing into the FP view was a side effect, not a goal Smilie

When opted in to redesign, v=1 would result in being sent to classic threads instead of redesign, which was a bad experience

In classic I would argue the FP view is a bad experience.

I'm fairly certain v=1 was in the notification and quote links before. Can we get that back for classic at some point please?

Yes the FP view is awful for classic users. I immediately close my eyes and find the button that takes me back to the discussion thread so I can actually read again.

This is definitely something introduced recently, but not sure how recent

Hence its similarity to explosive diarrhea I guess.

Why was it changed? I thought that supposedly you folks were refusing to make any "improvements" or new changes to Classic except in the case of a bug, problem, corruption, etc.
