  • Carrier: Verizon
  • Requirements: Upgrade eligible on existing contract plan
  • Activation term: 2-year contract extension
  • Discount: Subsidized pricing while retaining grandfathered unlimited data plan
  • Bonus: Time limited up to $200 trade-in on any phone from any carrier and no UDP price increase from $30 to $50 that was recently announced
  • Online (probably want to avoid brick and mortar for obvious reasons)

Variation of another offer so credit goes to that.

YMMV until loophole is closed. Last reported successful by y2kirk1028 on 9/30/2015.

Log into Verizon Wireless online.

Go to My Verizon or My Devices, upgrade device and add Note 5 as subsidized upgrade with 2-year contract extension. It should also work for other devices and another member has reported that it also works with Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.

Select and do trade-in on any phone from any carrier and confirm $200 value. May be time limited offer and value may vary by device. I used a 2008 Sprint HTC Touch Pro that was appraised for $200. Update: Had doubts but the trade-in was processed and $200 was credited to my account so no cell phone bill for the next three months (see 4th attachment).

When it informs that your unlimited data plan is no longer available and to change plan, view cart to bypass changing plan, important to confirm that it shows your old plan then check out. Do *not* at any time select any other plan during the process or you'll risk losing UDP. The point is to bypass the plan change by viewing cart, confirming old plan and checking out.

Update: Here are tips from other members if you're having issues with checking out.

Just did this on my single UDP line, it worked!!. I followed these steps from JeffM4421. You have to make sure to hit continue when you see the optional features page then view cart to get the check out button red.

I am on a single line with an upgrade with UDP, from shop verizon i added the note 5 to cart at full price. It asked me if i wanted to upgrade or add a line. I checked upgrade and it took me to confirm pricing. Then to Equipment protection. I declined and continued to review plan then before i added any features on the next page i clicked the cart icon on the top right. IT will bring up a drop down and i selected view cart. From there i selected 299 on 2 year contract. Declined EQ protection once again then once it informs you UDP is no longer avail you need to click the cart icon once again and view cart. From there you can check out without a problem
Use Chrome and save everything to PDF for record.

If you managed to check out successfully sit tight and don't contact VZW regarding order status. Online order status is slow to update and will continue to show in process. If your CC has a $0 precharge and full charge then it's a good sign. Sign up for Fedex delivery status and wait for the automated call that your package is arriving. I got the call the following day after ordering with package delivery expected the day after.

When new phone arrives cut up inserted SIM card and don't activate to make sure your plan doesn't change and confirm that the included paperwork shows the old plan.

If you need to cut down your SIM card to nano I can vouch for this tool linked below. It cut my micro down to nano nearly perfect and is working fine in the new Note 5. Another option before you order is to borrow a phone with nano SIM and have VZW swap for you but after ordering *do not* contact VZW for any reason as they'll notice the pending equipment order and remove your UDP.

$200 back on any phone is DEAD

PEOPLE ARE LOSING UDP WHO ARE ATTEMPTING TO DO THE BEST BUY METHOD THROUGH VERIZON!!!!! It's not reliably safe. Even when people are not completing the PEO, they are losing UDP.

When new phone arrives suggest to cut up SIM card and don't activate to make sure your plan doesn't change. Use nano SIM from existing phone or go to corporate retail store to request for free one.

There is no skip to cart option for me. When I click the cart option it gives me an error stating I need to go back and select the rest of the plan

Remove item from cart and start over. Instead of going through Shop, go to My Verizon or My Devices and upgrade device from there. Once it's in your cart and it prompts for plan change click on the cart in the upper right corner then check out. Just remove from cart and keep trying different variations until it takes it.

After spending a good chunk of time in the complexities of the julesjam thread just to keep my grandfathered data, this new idea seems shady to me.

OK, what you are doing is the Best Buy Method through Verizon. People have said it works to keep UDP but no one would ever provide me with screen shots to verify so I never added it to my thread.

If you do this, PLEASE provide screen shots showing your contract end date has been extended and you kept UDP (blacking out your personal info of course), thanks!!!!

Gah!!! Noooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!

Verizon corporate stores WILL NOT LET YOU OUT OF THE DOOR WITH AN UNACTIVATED SIM CARD and when they go to activate it and see you used a UDP line's upgrade THEY WILL MANUALLY SWITCH YOU OFF OF UDP!!!!!!!

You will have a Pending Equipment Order on your line - they will see that and they will complete it and BOOM! There goes your UDP.

And NEVER use the automated line to activate a SIM/phone if you have UDP! Also, I would not turn the new phone on with the SIM it ships with.

Please read my thread if you have UDP and don't want to lose it:

It's the Best Buy Method through Verizon. All except for the part about going to a corporate store to get a SIM card - that you absolutely cannot do. You will have a PEO on your line and they will see that and complete it and you will be kicked off of UDP on the spot.

People have claimed the Best Buy Method works through Verizon but no one ever would provide screen shots so I never put it in the OP of my thread b/c I only put methods that were verified to work by screen shots in the OP.

That's fine but you are still going to have a Pending Equipment Order on your line if you do this. You must be sure not to complete it. And you cannot call the automated line when the phone arrives nor would I turn the phone on with the SIM it ships with. Nor can you go to a corporate store to get a SIM card - they will not give them to you, they must activate them and then they would see the PEO and complete it and then you would lose UDP.

I am not saying the Best Buy Method doesn't work through Verizon - several posters have said they have done it before. But no one would ever provide screen shots to prove it.

Stay far, far, far away from a Verizon corporate store as long as there is a PEO on your UDP line. And NEVER call the automated line to activate a SIM card/phone if you have UDP.
