Not sure why this has been overlooked. To me, this is a much better option than the badly outdated Core 2 Duo systems people like to post. This CPU is capable enough for a non-3D HTPC duty, but there is no HDMI output. A low profile HD 6450 can fix that limitation easily.

not bad. Sandy Bridge chipset. Might, as in maybe, be able to drop a i3 or i5 into it
they may or may not use a different motherboard and heatsinks with the i3 and i5

Yeah, seems like a decent system. The case is only half-height, but you could probably swap the motherboard into a regular case and add a full height card. The spec sheet [lenovo.com] suggests it'll work with regular sandy bridge i3/i5/i7s, but the newegg picture only shows a 240w psu so that would likely need upgrading (it looks like a regular motherboard connector though.)

The AMD is faster overall. Single core for the G630 is faster by 200 points however the average cpu mark is a lot faster by 1477 points more then the G630.http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.p...II+X4+960T

Compared to the G630 cpu. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.p...40+2.70GHz

Can you take the Windows key from this desktop and use it for a built computer or something? I may plan to install Ubuntu on it to learn how to use it.

It'll be better than the nvidia 8400/210 or ati 5450 which seem to fill up that price range and will be more than good enough for video playback with WMC or Kodi.

No, the key will be tied to the system (basically the motherboard.) You could upgrade the CPU to an i5 or i7, add memory and change the hard drive if you wanted, but it's an oem key that you can't use on a different build.
