One of the best dehydrated dog foods available. A bit on the pricey side, even with the promo, the shipping ($5) takes away a good amount of the savings. I usually try to wait for their BOGO promos. Rare, but a good time to stock up.

Do you guys use HK as a primary food or as a topper? HK by itself won't fill my dog up so I'm currently using Embark as the topper and Orijen 6fish as kibble.

I'm a little late on this but I use it as a base. I buy the Preference type which doesn't have meat and then I add extras. Below is what we've figured out for our dog, a 60lb cattledog/shepherd mix and she's been eating this way for years now.

My anecdotal bit
We tried every kind of kibble before this and she had "clear the entire house" gas from both ends lol. She was also overweight and had fatty tumors even though she was only 2 and the vet said they'd have to surgically remove them once they got too large, but they weren't cancerous. Within 6 months she lost 20 lbs and the fatty tumors were completely gone. The vet couldn't believe it. Now she's 5 and extremely happy and still healthy!

My Dog Food Recipe:
About once every month and a half I buy two large fryer chickens, two packs of gizzards and two containers of liver. It comes under $20 usually. I buy a new box of Preference every 2 or 2.5 months I think.

The Chickens (45 Minutes)
I cut the meat and skin from the chickens in bite-sized pieces and place into a large bowl. I also mix the gizzards in with that bowl.

I then use a powerful blender (bought from Walmart for $30) to blend the bones (my dog like to only swallow food so that's why I blend) and livers. Sometimes I add 1/2 to 1 cup of water when blending if it's too thick. You'll know it's too thick if the blender overheats lol. I end with two blender-fulls of bones/liver which is now liquid and place into another large bowl.

Packaging (45 Minutes)
My wife takes a ton of plastic sandwich bags and weighs out 3.5oz of chicken-goo (bones/liver) in each bag. Then she adds approximately 3.3oz of the chicken-chunks/gizzrds/skin. Then wash each bag, dry and place into the freezer.

Feeding
Every morning I thaw a frozen bag of raw chicken-mix in hot water. I scoop a quarter of a cup of the Preference mix into her bowl, add a generous amount of hot water and let it sit for 5 minutes before adding the chicken-mix and feeding her.

For dinner she gets a quarter of a cup of preference. 2-4 times a month we'll give her some raw fish fillets with dinner as well.
