Target has a "buy 2, get 1 free" sale on board games. Several board games are on clearance, and the clearance pricing stacks with the "B2G1" promotion.

Really interested in Ticket to Ride for 6th graders, have you played it, would this be a good option for school (30 minute of game time)? Please advise & thanks!

Great deal! There are some really awesome games in there. I've wanted Dead of Winter and Castles of Mad King Ludwig for awhile now, but unfortunately my wife is not down for spending $120 to get a free $60 game.

A sixth grader could definitely learn and play this game, but they would need to have patience (which most of my sixth graders lack). However, I don't think you'll finish this in 30 minutes with twelve-year-olds, definitely not including teaching the game.

board games? That would involve interacting with actual people.

I'll echo gonephisin and say it could probably be handled by sixth graders but not in 30 mins. Boardgamegeek lists a playtime of 30-60 mins. Their estimates are usually on the shorter side most people say and I can't imagine a game of TtR taking longer than 60 mins, but 30 seems a bit short.

TtR was one of my first modern designer board games. I had played hundreds of games of it on my phone and bought a physical copy of the game to play. I brought it in to work and invited some coworkers who were also inexperienced with tabletop gaming to play. Like I said, I had the rules down already from playing the digital game a lot. Seeing them struggle with the rules and understanding the points scoring from completing routes made me wonder how they got jobs up here though. It isn't a complicated game at all but they were just not able to grasp the concept. I soft-played my routes for a while , not really cutting anyone off or blocking them, and just working on long routes. Finally I decided I had to end the game so I started laying down trains quickly. When I announced the game's end and started scoring the routes for myself, everyone watched intently and then said "Oh, so that is what we were supposed to be doing?" It blew my mind.

So if your sixth graders took to it quickly, you could at least tell them they did a better job of understanding the game than a bunch of guys who do telemetry, tracking, and commanding of satellites.
