I booked a round trip flight 20 hours ago using 25,000 Delta Skymiles, and I went through the online process to cancel my flight, and they want to charge me $150 to redeposit the 25,000 miles into my account!! That seems totally unfair especially because I'm still within the 24 hour window. Do I have any recourse? I'm not a platinum member or anything. The flight is 11/12-11/16.

You need to call them.

Quote from Delta :
For SkyMiles Award Tickets, please call Delta Reservations to request cancellation.

If you try to do it online it doesn't know about the 24 hour thing (which isn't actually 24 hours either, it's midnight on the day after you book, which is anywhere from 24.01 to 47.99 hours)

And if it doesn't know about that then it's a $150 fee for regular members-

http://www.delta.com/content/www/...-faqs.html

Click on "What will the redeposit fee be if I cancel an award booking" and you'll see:
The Award Ticket redeposit fee is $150 USD. This fee is waived for Diamond and Platinum Medallion members.

So in short, as per the first link, you need to call to get the "free" cancellation for award tix

You definitely need to call ASAP...

IIRC, the change fee/redeposit fee on flights purchased w rewards (Delta) is $150. It's all outlined in the fine print...but you should be able to do it without the fee provided it's within 24 hours, and if think your flight needs to be at least 7 days away (which yours is).

Do you want to cancel it outright, or change it?

Head over to the forums at FlyerTalk...those folks can be extremely helpful.

Good advice from KPS about Flyertalk. Also keep in mind that the live conversation has the ability to go to a supervisor to waive fees whereas the computer cancellation is programmed to charge $150. Good luck.

Unfortunately, I think you mixed up the 24 hour cancellation - it is for *purchased* tickets only, not *award* tickets by redeeming points.

To cancel an award ticket, you have to pay $150 charge unless you are a Platinum or Diamond member, which you stated you are not.

Like others have said, call ASAP and plead your case, but I don't think you can go in guns blazing

That's incorrect- award tickets have been included in the free cancellation policy for some time now- but you have to do it by phone rather than online as the link I posted mentions
