Hey all, first post here.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6814125792

Spent weeks waiting for a pretty good deal on a high-end video card on Newegg. Wanted to give back to slickdeals since I picked up some pretty good deals on front page / popular deals.

Gigabyte Radeon R9 390 8GB is $279 with 10% coupon code EMCKAAN22 and MIR rebate of $20 will make the final price around $259-$260.

I just picked one up!

Is this worth the $100 extra over a gtx 960 or r9 280x

If you're playing above 1080p resolution yes.

Seems the R9 280 is at least twice as powerful as the 960, definitly worth 30% more cost. I believe the R9 290x is more expensive than both of these.

Personally it would be really hard for me to turn down the R9 380 (NOT x) with twice the ram, and more output power compared to the GTX 970, which is about the same price.

This is a great price for a great card. Anyone on the fence should see this review of the r9 390 from tomshardware.com: http://www.tomshardware.com/revie...,4245.html

When overclocked this card goes toe to toe with a GTX980 and beats it in a lot of high resolution cases. Note it is like ~$150 less than a GTX 980 as well.

Do you guys think these will go even lower in price or go higher? It offers the same power at 1080p as GTX 970, much more in above resolution, and will be much more resourceful once DX 12 games come. , yet are price lower than the 970 by about $30-40. I will definitely replace my 970 with this (unless there's a $350 deal for the 390x on Black Friday), but wondering should I make the switch sooner or later. Right now I'm still perfectly happy with my 970 at 1080p, but want my rig to be ready for Oculus Rift and DX 12 games. Considering GTX 970 prices, both new and used, barely dropped since its release, I am still delaying the switch. But if this drops in price even more they will come close to GTX 960 retail price, which is totally insane. Du you think its wishful thinking to wait for a around $200 deal for this or 350 for 390x on BF?

Wait. Do not even buy at black friday. This is a marginal upgrade so far. VR is coming out in Q1 and Q2 of next year which new graphics cards will be out by then as well. Wait for them so the prices of all cards get bumped down.

@1080p you will be fine for a while

I have the asus version of this card and it is really nice. especially if you link it up with a nice freesync monitor. I ran witcher 3 @ full setting, hair rendering included and it was smooth. Excellent card and I look forward to running it in sli with another.

GpuBoss links generally don't always correlate to real life very well. If you want a good comparison, you must look at in-game benchmarks.
