I've seen a $40 amazon store card sign up bonus, anyone know how often that comes around? currently there is $20 sign up bonus and I don't know if I should hold out for more?

You can get 5% from Discover More and Chase Freedom, with at least $100 sign up bonus. Please PM me if you need a referral to get $50 more.

Don;t get the amazon one.

Get any other card and get a lot more for a bonus.

United
American Airlines
Southwest
Sapphire
Wells fargo
American express. One of these gave you 100 dollars and 1 year prime as a bonus.

You will get anywhere from 400-500 dollars in rewards/statement credit/giftcards. Or even more if you actually use the miles to fly with .

I do the majority of my purchases on amazon, and none of these give anywhere near 5% cash back there. I have an amex for all other purches

There are a ton of ways to do 5% and more than 5% on Amazon.

Buy Gamestop GCs at a discount (last seen was ~16% on eBay) and then buy Kindle cards in-store.
Use a 5% office supply card to buy gift cards at Staples, Office Depot, OfficeMax
Use a 5%+ supermarket card and then stack fuel points on top. I routinely get north of 10% this way, but could get higher if I had any way of storing gas safely or a gas-guzzling car.

I haven't paid for an Amazon item with a credit card in almost 2 years, unless you count the promos where I stacked a coupon that required CC payment.
