One of those things you may not know you need until you do. $9 is a no-brainer.

And, OP, it's not just for 2.5" drives. See the wiki.

no real differences. do be sure to mark the included power cord, there's been incidences in the past where the wire gauge is smaller than normal, totally fine for this use but a bad idea to accidentally use on a pc or something.

No kidding, I bought this exact model back in 2009 for $20 when I was in a bind. Most of the newer versions have USB 3.0 capability if you have that in your new rig. Since I don't, I'll happily buy a backup for my cable that has served me well 50+ times since I bought it. $9 plus $1 e-credit kickback is a no-brainer!

This one can't connect to 3.5" drives. I'm thinking of canceling so I can grab a USB 3 version as that will be better for the future.

I got one these FAR from TD. It works great to connect an internal SATA DVD-RW as an external drive.
