This is usually $90. Not much of a deal unless you are using eBay Bucks and/or discounted eBay gift cards.

Always remember the hassle factor with gift cards. You can only use these at BP. Some gas stations might charge you the credit rate. You have to track and avoid losing the card. It may take up more space in your wallet. When you get to the end of one card, you are going to have to do 2 transactions at the pump which takes a few extra minutes. You have paid up-front, so you are effectively loaning them money rather than being loaned money when you pay with your credit card. BP might be more expensive or inconvenient than other gas stations in some regions.

Not worth it. Been waiting on a BP gift card again and SVM got cheap on us. A 5% discount worth the hassle of having to buy BP for a long period of time to use the card? Not worth it.

10%+ or no dice on gas gift cards, folks!

In NYC, BP doesn't charge a difference whether paying cash or credit. I leave gas gift cards in the car. I don't see why I need it with me anywhere else. If the card is low, then I'll just fill up my car next time it needs to be filled since being in the city I pass by a lot of gas stations. I don't wait until my gas gauge is dangerously low. Also it doesn't take that long to restart a transaction. One to two minutes tops unless you got weak arms. Also it will only occur once when you use up 100 dollars of gas (which is 2-3 visits for me). Once the receipt is printed, it goes to the insert payment prompt again. I usually go to BP because it doesn't differentiate payment and it is cheaper than other well known brands (Mobil, etc...).

Regarding the loan, that's inherent with all gift cards.

The BPs in my area have slow POS systems that take a long time to cycle between transactions. There is a significant delay after pressing "Yes" for the receipt, and before it will accept a new payment card after your receipt prints. Leaving the cards in the car is fine, but if you have a bunch you should keep the rest in a safe place at home in case your car gets stolen or broken into.

I can confirm. I'm in NYC as well and I get charged the cash rate when using the gift card. Also you might want to look into going to NJ for any reason, gas was $1.87 for regular when I filled up recently. Note: go further in land, around the Holland prices are hovering around $2.20.

The savings of $10 dollars by using the GC is about 5 gallons of gas now a days.

Agree - just not worth it unless at least 10%. I have $8.50 in ebay bucks to blow too, but I'm going to hold out.

Little incentive with my amex blue offering 5% back on gas. Yeah I get the 1% back through ebay and maybe another 1-2% through cash back sites, but isn't worth the hassle for me. TU as it be worth it some. Thanks for sharing OP.

How is it a hassle? You pull up swipe your gift card just like you would your debit/credit and fill. 5% is almost 15 cents a gallon where I live and a $100 lasts about two weeks with car washes. I'll take the savings for something I was going to buy anyway. Everything adds up.

I joined BP Drivers reward and when i input my id at the pump or swipe my rewards card, it denies me. Called BP customer service and they didnt care. Not purchasing anything BP related. And these gcs are usually 90. Also, to the guy who says GCs are not charged as CC in NYC, yeah no. Its only at selected BP gas stations. Not all of them.

Don't forget many of us have credit cards that give 3-5% back on gas, and we are trading that for only 1-2% cashback on eBay purchases, and the promise of 2% in eBay Bucks which can be taken away if eBay decides to ban us before January.

I can't take you seriously if you use your BP gift card for car washes. laugh out loud

Who's forgetting? I'm using my Doublecash card to purchase the gift cards (2%). I've never had an issue with ebay bucks so I'll continue to count that until I do. That's 10% off all in (5% off sale, 2% doublecash, 2% ebay bucks, 1% cashback site). Better than 3-5% if my math is correct.

Why does it matter if you purchase gas, car washes or condoms with the gift card? 5% off gas is the same as 5% off a donuts. Who cares, you save no matter what you buy.

If you purchase car washes or condoms at a BP gas station, you are paying much more than 10% more than you would elsewhere.

That will depend on where you live. The little town I'm in now BP has the cheapest and best car wash in town. $3 if you purchase 10 gallons of gas. They hand prewash it, put you through the machine then hand dry.
