On the contrary I have found that some of these "no-name" brand flashlights perform much better than the so called name brand flashlights -- and at a fraction of the cost of those name brand flashlights.

For the best results, use the larger 3.7V 18650 battery and you won't ever go back to the 3 AAA battery setup.

FAKE "Cree" emitter made by Chinese counterfeiter Latticebright.

Comes complete with payola FAKE "reviews"!

"The product was obtained in exchange for an honest [sic] review.

"I received this item at a discounted price for my honest [sic] review."

"This was given to me for free or for a reduced price for an honest [sic] review."

And this isn't one of them...

A square spot...the mark of a low-quality light:

can you explain why?

my thinking, and i don't know what i'm really talking about :-), is that if the led is square the spot should also be square ... is the led round?

i've taken apart several led light bulbs & they all have square leds ...

All LED emitters are square, but properly-designed lights have optics that create circular spots. An amateur designed this light.

Which ones are genuinely honest, and which ones were written because the light was free? (or "discounted")

When you pull the focusing ring all the way out, it is in "pin point" mode. Since the LED light source is square, the light image produced is square. Basically this is a one to one reproduction. It is not a design defect. All you have to do to produce a round light image is to pull the focusing ring toward you.

I have the Oxyled brand of this same light and love it. Yes, it's cheap but bright as hell. This thing has also survived over a year of abuse from my kids. Doesn't pay off for me to buy a $100 flashlight because my kids will probably lose or break it. This one has held up great.

Posting "deals" like this is like posting 99 cent store deals. If you want or like cheap China lights they are all over ebay and online. Nothing special or cheap about it. Just an everyday price for cheap low quality junk.

Correct. All of these "focusing" flashlights suffer from the same effect. The other guy doesn't know what he's talking about. Basically, if you like round center spots, you stay away from this type of flashlight.

I don't see this as a defect. It is just a normal characteristic of a magnifying len. If for some reason they were able to manufacture a round LED len array, then the light image would be round when the len is pulled al the way out. Agree with you, the other guy doesn't know what he's talking about.

Incidentally if you do a search your will find similar flashlights on ebay at half this price. The only problem I've encountered with these flashlights is that the 5 way switch is often defective. On the other hand the sellers seem to know that this is a common problem and have given me a refund. Bottom line is that these Chinese flashlights are great flashlights and at a great price.
