Well...do you guys think it can be done? Either dell, toshiba, or thinkpad. Needs to be intel core latest gen. 8gbs ram, solid state. Also in that price, a 23"+ monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

I always buy the $99 black friday computers and this year I want to get something good. I am at $540 at lenovo for everything but the laptop. I'd hate to get something that isnt the latest and greatest if I am spending this much money, ya know?

I would like to use my lenovo preferred account for 12 months no interest. But I wouldnt be opposed to a credit card as that would double my warranty for free. I would not want a warranty for a thinkpad as they always last 4-5 years or more.

I also want a backlit keyboard, trackpoint on keyboard, and cant only have VGA. Has to have hdmi or displayport on actual laptop. Touch screen would be nice, but not mandatory. Would prefer core i5 to i3 as its quad core. Confused about latest generations, and differences, and would appreciate any help on that.

Basically, friend has a thinkpad t410 from 2009. That thing has a battery that still has 80 percent capacity...and its been plugged in 90 percent of the time...ok...there aint another laptop in history that is that old, been abused from outlet, and still holds that long of a charge. Still nervous about buying non removable battery but that aint a deal breaker.

Should I wait until cyber monday for this? Was able to get a $4k credit line at lenovo with no hard inquiry and ready to buy now, but obviously waiting another month or two wont kill me. Besides my $99 x205 is still plugging away but I would really like to hand it down to a relative in need!

Is my docking station thing dumb? Sorry but I hate cords, dont want extra computers...still not completely sold on cloud computing...and just want it that way!

I've owned a few Latitude E-series and have been pretty happy with them. If you're on a super tight budget, the E6420s are a dime a dozen on eBay or Craigslist. They typically come with an i5 or i7 dual core. You can sometimes find the i7 quad core which benchmarks very high, nearly as high as i7 quad cores you can buy today. If you don't mind the heft and or on a budget, I'd look for those.

I also dock my computer, however I may switch to an USB 3.0 dock. Sure, its convenient to quickly dock in your laptop, however plugging in two cables (USB 3.0 docking station and adapter) takes just a little more effort. If Dell obsoletes the current E-series line, rendering my dock useless like they did with the previous E-series line, that's the way I plan on going.

Finally, somethings to consider- if you are always keeping your laptop docked and the lid down, having a backlit keyboard and HD screen may be pointless since you'll never see either of them.

Hope this helps.
