From Karl at RingPlus (CEO):

The Future 7 promo is for new activations only. Current members can activate a new line as long it is for a new physical person (1 free plan per person and no data only devices (must be a phone)).

On Friday(Oct. 9 2015), we will run an upgrade promotion for current members.
The reason for the delay for the current member promo is because the allotment for upgrading members is tied to how many total new members we getting on the Future Plan Phase 7.

I also want to thank our current members from Phase 5 who voluntarily reversed their plan changes and opened up 500 lines for new members porting in from T-Mobile.

Because of the honesty and cooperation of current members, we have several hundred slots open for upgrades from prior Future phases.

We expect several thousands of slots available for upgrade on Friday.

Right now, we are trying to find a fair way for our Friday promotion to open more spaces for upgrades in order to avoid rushing, etc. Updates will soon follow.

Our goal is free telecommunication service for every one sponsored by alternative revenue. To reach this goal, we need a critical mass of subscribers. Slowly, we are trying to bring all of the current members up to the new level of free allotments available. Please also remember the the future research is not controlled by RingPlus, and that such research brings us the need cash to pay for all free plans.

Upgrade to Future Plan Phase 6 will re-open for a limited number of current members at 2pm PST October 9, 2015. The members, who cannot upgrade due to the limited amount available, can register on an email waiting-list (https://store.ringplus.net/upgrade.html) to be upgraded as soon space becomes available. You can either take a chance and wait till 2pm PST and try to upgrade today or starting at 1:45 PST October 9, 2015. Sign up for the waiting-list.

The email waiting-list for future upgrade possibilities does not give priority for todays opening (Future Plan Phase 6) but for all other upgrades starting Monday (September 12, 2015).

If you are on the waiting-list, your telephone line will automatically upgrade when a specific space becomes available within a specific Future account category. (Phase 1-x) Please remember that all Future research plans had different requirements (e.g. account is linked to Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn or has ported in from T-Mobile, etc.)

Members upgrading right now to Future Plan Phase 6 please understand that space is limited.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Phase 7 currently requires you attach a social media network. We should assume that upgrades on Fri to Phase 7 will also require social media be attached.

I think the best deal going now for a phone that can be activated on RingPlus is the Sprint Moto E from Best Buy. Its a pretty decent phone for the price and it definitely works on RingPlus. Just be sure to activate the phone on RingPlus before you turn it on for the first time.
