I've got the hedger that I got for a steal and it's ok. 40v seems to be the middle ground between the one most people with a small postage stamp sized lot would need and the larger 56v-80v ones a larger lot would need (or gas).

I have one and the 40V is plenty powerful. I find myself averaging setting 2-3 out of 6 for the power setting. The battery lasts long enough for a couple uses on my two medium sized front and back yards.

If you have tons of weeds and lots of property (I had some very thick weeds behind my fence on the other side (city property) that I wacked down. It took a couple charges to do a about 100ft x 20ft area of thick weeds. You'd want gas if you are doing thick weeds often. Otherwise this is just fine for probably 90% of home owners.
