this x1000.

Seriously this is what people need to learn photography with, not 70D or 7Dii. I facepalm everytime someone new grabs one of those as a first time DSLR.

An experienced person will dominate anyone with this set up vs a casual person shooting a 5Diii/7Dii/70D. Learn the basics first! unless you do sports there really isn't a reason to upgrade from something like this till it breaks.

in for 1. I had purchased a Canon S110 the past spring to get started with photography, I think this is the logical next step. Thanks Big Grin

Sure, get it and pay $480 (twice as much) [canon.com], if you want something better than this deal get the SL1 2 lens kit for $329 [canon.com]

Canon is practically giving these away now days. Guess the A6000 and other mirrorless are killing them.

My wife and I have an original digital rebel which was great but started acting funny. will the lenses swap over? If so I already have a zoom lens. how much better is the SL1?

thanks

Aside from price, why? It's easy to outgrow rebels, especially if you're looking to become more than a beginner.

Mind you, I bought a Rebel XT in 2008 for $250 when it was a 3year old model, but there wasn't the selection there is today back then.

The T5 is newer but has less features, the SL1 is one of the smallest DSLR out there:

Sorry to bug you but I want to order one as a surprise. For a notice (I wouldnt say beginner ) having had a dig rebel and owning a 18-55 & 28-300mm lens already which would you go for? I like the lens on the T5 but the options seem temping on the SL1.

We do shoot a lot of sporting events as my son plays football and baseball and we love the outdoors.

thanks

For 299 I picked up this combo instead. I wanted the bigger lens and IS.
Rebel T5 EF-S 18-55mm IS II & EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II Kit Refurbished
http://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en...efurbished

Alternatively, for 269 they have the same combo with a 77-300 lens, but no IS.
