Upgrade to Windows 8

hkl15 269 14 October 13, 2015 at 03:47 PM
Hi folks,
I need some help upgrading my laptop FROM windows 7 home premium to Windows 8, 64 bit. My cousin gave me his activation code since he never used it. However, I don't have the installation CD. How can I download Windows 8? Can't find it online. Please help! I'm trying to avoid Windows 10 if possible.

Thanks in advance.

Your better off just upgrading directly to Windows 10. Link [microsoft.com]

It's much better for a tech newbie than Win 8

I don't mind staying with win 7. It's just that IE8 is not supported on some websites.
ESPN , google drive, etc

I'm not sure what to do

my God stay away from 8. I used it briefly between 7 and the upgrade to 10 and I'd go with either 7 or 10 over 8 any day of the week.

Windows 8 is fine, no reason to hate it (although not sure why you want 8 specifically but not 10). You should be able to use http://windows.microsoft.com/en-u...resh-media to create Windows 8.1 installation media.

As already stated you can download newer versions of IE for Windows 7 though. Even better use Firefox or Chrome.

After you upgrade to Windows 10, be sure to put all your homemade pr0n into that computer.

I agree, not much reason to not go directly to 10. And I never understood all the hate on 8, Classic Shell or other and there was minimal difference from 7, yet people still complain. I worked on systems a fair deal and had no issues, and no complaints from neighbors after setup, some went straight from XP and very minor learning curve after I set up (I set up a few 60+ year old not terribly techie people in the area with no issue). I use Linux only myself though.

But, if this is only a browser issue, just upgrade your browser if that's the only concern, nothing terribly wrong with 7, as people have been saying....

I would agree here skip 8 and go to 10 directly. No reason to go to 8. Users only reason to upgrade seems to be the use of a very old (And likely insecure) version of IE 8 in W7.

OP are you installing windows updates?

Ditto on skipping the 8. Unless you have some old software or hardware that may not play nicely on 10. But then, if it won't work on 10, it probably won't work on 8 either.
