Trailer hitch for honda odyssey - uhal or Curt?

dmyh 2,510 847 October 14, 2015 at 08:32 AM
hi

Looking to add a trailer hitch to my 2011 odyssey. Amazon sells the curt hitch 1.5 or 2" for around $140.

or i can goto uhaul and get their hitch installed for about $180.

i just want to mount a bike rack on the hitch, i doubt i'd ever be towing anything.

Questions:
- anyone get their hitch installed from uhaul? are there ever any coupons or discounts?
- is the curt hitches that much better than the uhaul hitches?
- what are the advantages/disadvantages to getting a 1.5 vs. 2" hitch?

thanks all.

1) uhaul has installed hitches on two of my cars in the past. No issues at all. Not sure about coupons or discounts as this was long ago.
2) No comment.
3) I recommend a 2" hitch - higher weight / towing capacity - also provides more optionality on bike racks. The Thule T2 bike rack I own is the 2in hitch version and has an available add-on to increase total bike capacity to four (4). The 1.25in version of the same rack does not have the available add-on and as such the total capacity is limited to two (2) bikes.

I have installed them myself each time. I buy them from amazon. Nothing wrong either way,... But some hitches give your more ground clearance than others... I would go 2 inch for up to 500lbs 300lbs tongue weight.

Uhaul hitch may be more Generic... Go to etrailer.com to see the curt hitch and others ans how they look on your vehicle.

You cant go wrong either way.. Takes me about 45 mins to install, but 180 and you are out... goo enough when you dont want to put tools away or you are unsure... Usually 4 bolts ans no drilling... You just need to torque it to spec.

Mine started off just for bikes... Then trailers and hitch-hauls... So get the wiring now... It's easy to do yourself too!

Good luck
