Generate Certificate and email them from spreadsheet

Foreveryours 9,253 2,201 October 14, 2015 at 11:56 AM
I'm doing training and I'm having them post attendance on Google form. I want to generate completion certificate automatically for each attendees and email it to them.

Where do I start? Thanks.

You've got a few paths, a little more context about the training and certificate may be relevant. Are third parties going to be interested in verifying the certificates? Do you want to try to digitally sign them, etc?

You can do an email mail merge using google docs. You can use an Add-on in google docs like autoCrat to help with this or you can do some custom scripting along these lines: http://tjhouston.com/2012/03/merg...via-email/

You can us microsoft office to perform a mail merge and send an email via outlook. I'm not sure how to generate a pdf but it's probably possible.

You could build your own web based solution to generate the certificates hosting them on your own server and emailing unique links that generate each persons certificate. This cold provide a means for third parties to verify the certificate. Tools like dompdf, jasperreports, or datavision could be used with some php.

Whatever you do a decent amount of testing will be required before you do it with your actual data set.

Certificate is just a proof for the trainees that they completed the training. Certificate can be in Word, so can I drop the name and date to the template and email it as an attachment?

Yes. Look at the autoCrat add-on for google docs, it's probably the simplest option.

Basically you need to:
-Create a certificate template
-Preform a mail merge, preferably to pdf
-email the certificate

You'll want to do a few tests with a few fake names and emails that belong to you to work out any kinks before you use the real list.
