Malwarebytes

patgwashere 730 215 October 16, 2015 at 11:25 AM
Every time I come to slickdeals website Malwarebytes says it is blocking n1.smartyads.com.
It say it is outbound which is what worries me.
Anyone else experiencing this?
I ran Malwarebytes full scan and also ran it in safe mode and nothing shows up.
Ran Avast full scan as well as boot scan and nothing shows up.
Tech support at Malwarebytes had me run a couple other malware programs and nothing.
I reformatted and did clean install and still happens.
Browser does not matter does it with Edge , Internet explorer or firefox.

There is another thread regarding this in the Site Issues and Suggestions forum.
SD is supposed to be investigating / blocking smartyads if they can.

I thought ads are supposed to be safe?
If ads aren't safe, why does Microsoft put ads in Windows 10?
Does MS try to spy on people? What would happen if people put their homemade pr0n on their computer?

I have been doing everything I can to ensure that it's not coming from our site. But it should be noted that Googling "smartyads malware" surfaces a lot recent articles of people experiencing the same issue. Most of the articles indicate that the source is from downloading unwanted browser add-ons or other programs. This also seems to be affecting certain people multiple times and others never see it which points in that same direction.

If you're experiencing this problem and can provide any info on the source or point to an ad or anything else that we have control over that's causing it, that would be very helpful. Thanks!

Cant remove whats not there
I worked with Malwarebytes tech support
they had me download and run multiple program scans.
Nothing was found.
My avast finds nothing in boot and regular scans,
I even reformatted windows 10 and it still happens when I come to slickdeals site.

This happens in windows 10 edge browswer as well as firefox
Do not think it is the browser or an actual infection

You are missing the huge beneficial point (ie. cure) that dale suggested.
Sure,, the browser change alone won't have any effect on smartyads, HOWEVER if you set NoScript (add-on) so you have to manually approve each script source (ie. smartyads.com) and deny it permission permanently, then you won't be subject to its attempts/effects.
Hence that is exactly why I am not affected by smartyads and many many more BS ad sites.

Why should I change my browser just for Slickdeals?
One of the main reasons I switched to windows 10 was I like edge browser.
Malwarebytes always stops Slickdeals Crap from getting thru anyway.
I would stop visiting this website if it made me change browswers

Any chance you could provide info on the ad as doublewood asked? Maybe a screenshot ?
