Feature/Button to correct an expired deal that is valid again

bgrigg 101 10 October 17, 2015 at 08:17 AM
I see that there is a button to report that a deal is expired, but what about deals that do expire but then come back again (and not months later)? A few days ago I was looking at the Samsung EVO 850 250GB SSD deal, and unfortunately when I woke up the next morning it was dead. But I kept refreshing the Newegg link periodically throughout the day and it came back in the afternoon, so I ended up purchasing it. But I and others replied to the post stating that it should be switched to a valid deal, but it never was.

The deal is now dead/expired again, but it would be nice to have a button or method to report an expired deal as being valid again, so that way other SD users can see it that might not have seen it originally.

Thanks,
Brian

Thanks, good to know. Although it looked like I wasn't the only one that didn't realize this as others had posted that it should not be expired anymore. Having the "Report Expired" button change to something like "Report Un-Expired" (or something similar) would make it much easier.

Hi bgrigg,

The QA team are the one who handles the expiring through the "Report Expire" feature. The moderators are the ones who move back deals to Hot Deals, that have been previously expired.
The reason is that moving the deals is a little more involved. QA and Mods have different sets of tools, therefore the QA team wouldn't be able to move them back to Hot Deals. QA works from a different "feed" so to speak. Also there are times when deal comes back in stock and another member posts a new thread. So in a case like that, the new thread would stand and the older one would not be moved back. It also depends on how old a deal is or if it's a Front Page deal , sometimes the Mods prefer a new thread is made so that members will receive deal alerts if they have any set up. So it's just a lot more then moving a thread back, hence why we let the Mods do it. Smilie
With all that said, it's not a bad idea to have a more obvious way of alerting the mods, as I know a lot of members only thing the Mod Alert button is to report bad posts. So hopefully that's something the Devs/Admins could look into.

How to MOD ALERT the first post to alert the moderators. I find a few deals that are still working but on SD, they are expired ?

Hey folks.

First of all, I am in love with SD community and in the last few days, find great deals and bought them right away.

Secondly, I find some of the deals that the QA marked theim EXPIRED but when I open the deal and go their respective links and apply the coupon code that is available on the deal page, I am still able to get these products for a deeply-discounted price. I was reading on the other thread that QA expire the deals after a day or so. Why they do it when the coupon code is available and when the deal is popular and what is the best way to un-expire such deals ?

Thanks,Cool

Hi Artelite,
The QA team does not expire the deals after a day or so, I'm not sure where you read that. The QA team only expires deals when they are reported and are in fact dead. Sometimes deals do come back in stock or the coupon codes are reactivated. That's not to say errors don't happen.
Please keep in mind that just because a coupon code still works, does not mean the deal is the same price as when it was posted. That would cause a deal to be considered expired, as would no longer having free shipping etc.
You can Mod Alert a thread by clicking on the button titled "Mod Alert" on the classic view of the site, or by the "flag' icon on the redesign version of the site.

And sometimes, a deal was expired, but was reactivated.

Maybe it ran out of stock, but they added more at a later time.

Thank you acesmuzic! I'll continue to do that. I would love to see an option someday that would allow us to set an expiration date on the threads we post. That could really help the mods out.
