Skylake i7 6700k vs i7 3770k

My old laptop is broken and so I'm in the market for a new one. How does intel's new Skylake compare to my desktop Core i7-3770? If i get Skylake, will it be able to replace my desktop? I use a lot of adobe premiere.

The last letter in the processor is probably the most important. The 6700K is a desktop processor (K series). If you're looking for a desktop replacement, something in the HQ, MQ, or HK series would generally be a fine replacement, with the caveat that in comparison to the normal U series chips it will run hot and use more battery when on battery power. The i7-6700HQ is probably going to be comperable in performance to your 3770k, but I don't have a specific benchmark handy.

Thanks, I was getting confused. Both desktop and mobile are called i7 so I couldn't tell. I need a fast processors and so I might opt for a mini tower instead of a laptop.

There are benchmark comparison websites that do this type of thing. It's probably not a direct replacement. the i markings are families and don't mean as much as it used to

Vague questions receive vague answers . . . . . .
from most websites it says you don't get much improvement

you also have to buy the more expensive memory
