Using September25 for 25% off of $999 or September30 for 30% off of $1199 you can get the Spectre X2 2in1 at HP's online store for as low as $750 before tax. Coupon expires 10-31.

This only works on the customizable model. Ships early November. Does anyone think Black Friday will bring a better deal?

Assuming there are no quality issues this does seem a better value then the Surface, but you do give up a higher res, Core I CPU's, & maybe a better stylus.

Also does anyone know if Discover's HP 5% CB will stack if a coupon is used?

I cant find any specs on the SSD, might be worth it if its pcie based otherwise I'm not sure, I wonder if I can upgrade it myself, the build out options for the SSD are rape

The base model is 128gb. An extra $150 to go up to 256gb but then you take off 30% with the coupon.

I'm doubtful the SSD is upgradeable. Everything is packed into the tablet side and I can't really think of a single one that is upgradeable. In fact on the Surface Pro 2 I own, it's even sealed together with glue. To replace the battery on it was doable but you have to heat up the edges to pry it apart aka, it ain't just turning a few screws.

Honestly, I'd try to score a SP3 before getting a Core M, Skylake or not.

Benchmarks of M3 model for comparison.

Video hands on preview.

Video comparison to older laptop. The 2in1 is assumed to be the Spectre X2.

What I'd like to know is if it has GPS (it has chip for verizon LTE so maybe?) & video out.

In my opinion, this is the 2 in 1, tablet first, device to get. I'd get this over the base surface 3/4 anyday.

As for a better deal around black friday, yes, there will be deals. This is slated to sell at best buy and HP's always have wiggle room in their prices. After all of that, there is always cowboom that will sell semi-used ones still under warranty at significant discounts. Either way, 25% off brand new out of the gate is not too bad, just wish it was for the base 799 model.

As if the previous gen wasn't nice enough.. They put skylake in it, made the screen detachable, AND lowered the price? Might have to hop on this..

Knew I'd find you posting here. Yes, this does look like a very compelling device given the pricing. Obviously, we'll have to wait and see on the reviews as this is HP after all.

I know I'm in the minority but I'm rather irritated that Microsoft only offered a Core M processor in the base 4GB model. They also upped the display resolution which I thought was unnecessary considering that the Surface Pro 3 already had an excellent display. I was really hoping an 8GB with a Core M configuration would be available and would provide a noticeable improvement in battery life. I've tested the Surface Pro 4 in store and it does not appear to be a worthwhile upgrade at all. The new pen and touch cover however are excellent, significant improvements and I'm far most excited for those than the Surface 4 itself.

This HP X2 on the other hand looks to be exactly what I was hoping for from the new Surface. If the build quality, weight, keyboard, kickstand, display and performance are a close match to the Surface and the battery life is near the quoted 10 hours, this could be a serious contender. Sales on these devices will be far easier to catch than with the Surface devices and used stuff could heavy discounts on places like Cowboom. Best of all, HP FINALLY used a Wacom digitizer for this. Definitely keeping an eye on this one. HP, please don't disappoint.

Edit - After watching the official HP promotional video [youtube.com] I don't know what to think. Dancing, really? Did no one in HP's marketing division see or learn from the the horrid first round of dance focused commercials for the original Surface?
