Editor's Notes & Price Research

Written by daisybeetle

  • This price matches a popular +86 Frontpage deal from early October.
  • Lifetime service is good for the duration of the DVR, additional fees may apply for transferring service when replacing the DVR box. Refer to the forum thread for additional discussion on each DVR unit. I bought the cable card Roamio's on a prior sale, and I am so far very happy with the Roamio - daisybeetle

Roamio OTA w/ Lifetime Device Subscription [amazon.com] is back on sale and in stock to ship this week at Amazon (based on my shipping estimate). For those that missed out earlier this month, purchase it and it should ship this week. It says temporarily out of stock, but they're getting a shipment this week.

It looks like this may be the last of their stock so get it while you can! There is also the regular one for 49.99 that states "style: DVR with Product Lifetime Service." Do not buy that one. It's a mislabel. You want to purchase the one that's 299.99.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Heads up this is the OTA version not the full cable TV model. That's fine if you are a cord cutter.

For cord cutters, you can get this for broadcast TV, then prepay $60 for three months SlingTV for ESPN, TBS, TNT, etc. You will get $50 credit to get a Nexus Player free at BestBuy. A Nexus Player can install Kodi which will get you... just about everything else.

If you can find a broken Roamio Basic, Plus, or Pro that has the Cable Card capability, you can remove the Cable Card bracket and put it in the Roamio OTA for cable support according to posts on the Tivo forums (looks like it bolts in). eBay has broken ones for cheap on occasion...

The phrasing is a little confusing. How do you get the Nexus Player for "free" at BB? Or is it $50 off the $100 making it $50 OTD?

wow.. i had no idea. have a link for more info on this? i am kicking myself for missing out on the $300 roamio basic w/cable card option deal a couple months back. if you want anything lifetime its gonna set you back atleast 600 now. figure an OTA w/lifetime and a broken roamio would still leave me under $400, IF i can pull this tweak off. my budget is around 300 so this sounds perfect.

I have the OTA plus a Mini plus a Stream. it is VERY impressive and very simple to use.

The Mini is for the secondary tv and the roamio is on the primary tv. Stream is hidden away and perfect for web and phone access.

It's really YMMV because it's probably not that hard for tivo to do push out a system update stopping either the guide updates for cable line up, or disabling the slot altogether on Roamio OTA models. But they may never get around to doing that since that would entail spending on updates for older model they rather discontinue, and the push the new Bolt.
