It's Over!!!!!

Yahoo!

Free Unlimited Voice/Unlimited Text/500 LTE MB Data (first week)
From Then On: Free 1000 min voice, 1000 text, 500 MB LTE (and Unlimited R+ to R+ Voice & Text) / Month + (optionally add an extra GB data for $8/ Month or pay $0.02/ Per MB)

It looks like the slickdeals community has spoken.

After slick deals for RingPlus plans with 2000 minutes and 1000 MB data, these deals with 1000 minutes and only 500 MB data do not cut it.

Combine that with the fact that current customers cannot upgrade their current plans, and the result is many thumbs down.

Q: Who is RingPlus?
A: They are a Sprint mvno (reseller).

Q: How is RingPlus different compared to other Sprint mvno's?
A: Company inserts their own ringback tones when you make a call.

Q: What do you mean by ringback tone?
A: You make a call and then hear "ring" "ring "ring" until the other party answers. RingPlus replaces the "ring"(s).

Q: Will the other party hear anything different?
A: No.

Q: Can I replace what is being played after I dial?
A: You cannot eliminate it. There is alternative content that can be chosen for the account's Dashboard.
https://discourse.ringplus.net/t/...ation/3537

Q: Why was this thread rated thumbs-down for weeks?
A: RingPlus first started this concept of free phone service in 2013. By mid 2014, almost everybody had their accounts cancelled.

Q: Why should I trust RingPlus now?
A: You have to believe that their business model now is viable & that they have learned from their mistakes.

Q: What is the minimum calling requirement for the free service?
A: 1 call every 60 days. However, using your phone regularly will help allow RingPlus to continually offer free service.

Q: Do you have any numbers I can call just to listen to content?
A: AudioNow - http://www.audionow.com/listen-li...-by-phone/ Recorded Weather Forecasts - http://www.weather.gov/dial-a-forecast/ TUNEDEX MEMORIES - http://www.songsyoushouldhavehear.../aboutPage

Q: Anything else I can do to support RingPlus?
A: During the ringback tone, press 5 to get more information. There is no charge or obligation to do this.

Q: Does RingPlus have a limit on the number of free users? Would they mind if my friends & relatives signed up as well?
A: In 2013 and 2014, you could only sign up during the promo periods. Now, RingPlus wants everyone to spread the word so they can sign up as many different people as possible.

Q: Can I have more than 1 phone (for family members) on my account?
A: Yes. But if you are signing up for others and then letting them manage that phone in the future, it might be a better idea to sign them up using a different account. RingPlus is also "considering" implementing a feature where ownership of a phone can be transferred to someone else.

Q: If I have more than 1 phone on my account, are the units (minutes, text, and data) shared among all users?
A: No.

Q: Why should I use RingPlus instead of Freedompop?
A: RingPlus does not require a smarthpone app using mobile data to make calls and sent texts. For Freedompop, you need to have a supported phone that you purchased from them (or pay $20 if you already have a phone on their suported list). Furthermore, you need to have a good data connection AND Freedompop's SIP app has to work reliably. Voicemail is also an extra feature on Freedompop. While it does not happen to everybody, Freedompop is also infamous for surprise charges. On the other hand, Freedompop gives much more data. You know, nobody says you must choose one or the other. You could use both services or choose neither if they do not fit your needs. Do what is best for your situation.

Q: RingPlus and/or Sprint sucks!
A: In the prepaid phone world, one size does not fit all. It is called Having Choices.

Q: How do I signup?
A: Have a Sprint-base phone that passes their validation checker. https://my.ringplus.net/device_va...quests/new Sign up for an account.
https://my.ringplus.net/registrations/new Within the account settings is where you select add your info and select a plan.

Q: Does RingPlus give me a number when signing up?
A: Yes. Number is from your region, but you have no choice on the exact number they issue.

Q: How come I am getting an error when trying to sign up?
A: System will not allow activations in non-Sprint areas, so try a different address. Alternatively, try a different credit card.

Q: What free plans are available?
A: Free Plan, Pepper Plan, Truly Free Plan, VIP Free Plan, VIP Pepper Plan, Diversity Plan, Junior Plan, Future Plan, and Jasmine Plan.

Q: What is the Free Plan?
A: First free plan offered in 2015 and started on June 13, 2015. You get 200 minutes + 50 texts + 10mb LTE data. A credit card or debit card is required. Auto top up is not required. Plan is always available for now.

Q: What is the Pepper Plan?
A: First offered on June 30, 2015. You get 250 minutes + 500 texts + 10mb LTE data. Auto top up is required using a debit or credit card. Minimum top up now is $5 + tax so your balance is never $0. If you never reach $0, there would be no need to add any additional money to the account. If you have an existing balance, you will not be charged the $5 minimum until your balance reaches 0. Plan now seems to be always available.

Q: What is the Truly Free Plan?
A: Introduced on July 15, 2015. You get 125 minutes + 40 texts + 10mb LTE data. No credit or debit card is required. All you need is a phone and an email address. Plan is expected to be always available. Obviously, you would need to top up with a card if you need more units for the month. Company also intends to implement soon a cash top up system using retail chains.

Q: What is the VIP Free Plan?
A: Introduced on August 19, 2015. Plan is an upgrade to the Free Plan and only available during designated promos. Users get 110mb instead of 10mb.

Q: What is the VIP Pepper Plan?
A: Also began on August 19, 2015. Plan is an upgrade to the Pepper Plan and only available during designated promos. Users get 260mb instead of 10mb. On 10/1/15, VIP Pepper plan was changed to 250 minutes + 500 texts + 280 mb.

Q: What is the Diversity Plan?
A: Opened on 8/27/15. Top up of $5 is required immediately regardless of current balance. Diversity Plan will include 300 minutes + 500 texts + 300mb. As soon as you go over the minutes, text or mb, you will be charged $5 and given another set of whatever category you went over. That means you would get either another 300 minutes or 500 texts or 300mb for $5. This extra set can rollover up to 2 months. If the $5 automatic charge fails, the line will be converted to the Truly Free plan. Plan is only available during designated promos.

Q: What is the difference between Pepper(and VIP Pepper) and Diversity Plans?
A: The important difference is that the Pepper Plan's overages are 2 cents per minute, text, or megabyte. Overage on the Diversity Plan is $5 for an additional chunk of minutes, text, OR data. Whether Pepper/VIP Pepper or Diversity is best for you depends on how much usage your line uses each month.

Q: What is the Junior Plan?
A: Began 9/17/15. Junior Plan is like the Diversity plan except tailored for daily use. Users get 10 minutes + 10 texts + 10mb Lte data everyday.

If you go over 10 minutes of talk for the day, you will be charged $1.00 and get unlimited talk for the next 24 hours. Anything over 10 texts in the day will trigger a 50 cent charge where you get unlimited texts for 24 hours. After 10mb that day, the overage is 2 cents per megabyte.

Like the Diversity Plan, Junior plan requires a top up of $5.00 immediately. Top ups expires in 2 months. Likewise, you are only charged if you go over. In both Diversity and Junior, there is no added charge if you stay within the limits.

Q: What is the Jasmine Plan?
A: Introduced 10/1/15. Plan gives 500 texts + 500 minutes + 500mb per month. A top up of $5 is required. This plan is like Diversity in that any overage will set off an auto top up of $5 only for the category that went over. That extra minutes or texts or data expires in 60 days.

Q: What is the Future Plan?
A: A ONE-TIME ONLY plan that was available on 9/22/15 from 6-9PDT. Users who signed up got 1000 minutes + 1000 texts + 1000mb per month.

Q:What is the difference between the Future Plans' Phase 1, 2, 3, and 4?
A:
Phase 1 Promo for 9/22/15. $5 initial top up. No auto top up required. No social media post.
Phase 2 Promo for 9/24/15. $5 initial top up. Auto top up required. Post to Facebook.

Phase 10 Promo for 10/18/15. Open for new lines. 2000 minutes + 500 texts + 1000mb data. $10 initial top up. Auto top up required. Restaurant link from Yelp need on signup. Post to social media.

Q: How do I signup for the upgrade mailing list?
A: https://store.ringplus.net/upgrade.html Note that there is no guarantee on its effectiveness in upgrading your current plan as RingPlus may rarely use the waiting list.

Q: After I reach my allotment of LTE data, am I then reduced to a slower speed?
A: No. There is no more data unless you pay for more.

Q: I am on a free plan, can I switch to the Pepper Plan during the promo?
A: Yes. The Pepper Plan would start when your current month ends. The $5 will not be charged until the Pepper Plan begins for your account.

Q: How much will it cost if I go over?
A: 2 cents per minute, text, or megabyte.

Q: Does toll-free numbers count toward by minutes?
A: Yes.

Q: How about other features and costs?
https://ringplus.net/details/

Q: What is this 1gb for $8 promo?
A: For $8 a month, you get 1gb LTE data each month that does not rollover. Offer is only available during designated promotional periods.

Q: Is it more economical to sign up for the $8 promo or just pay 2 cents per megabyte?
A: Breakeven amount is about 483mb of data. Use more than 483mb? The $8 promo would cost less. If you a more than $8 in your account, system will take only $8. With no money in your account, the system will charge $8 + tax from your credit card.

Q: What does Free Ports In + $2 Top ups mean?
A: That is another limited time promotion where port ins from another service is free. Normal charge is $7.99 + tax. Once the port is completed, RingPlus will credit your account with $2.

Q: What phones officially work with RingPlus?
A: Phones designed for the Sprint network. Here is the official policy from RingPlus:
https://discourse.ringplus.net/t/...s-list/438 AND https://discourse.ringplus.net/t/...-know/3484

Q: What about Sprint Prepaid, Virgin, and Boost phones?
A: Prepaid phones are supposed to be used for 1 year on that brand's service first, but that is not always the case. If the phone passes the Devices Check & you can register the phone, you are in.
https://my.ringplus.net/device_va...quests/new

Q: Can I put XXXXXXX prepaid phone on RingPlus?
A: Some are listed in the wiki. Also, search this thread to see if anybody has done it and also use the link above to check to see if it passes.

Q: Is a smartphone required?
A: No.

Q: Will RingPlus cancel my account if I put in a phone that wrongly passes the Checker?
A: In 2013, RingPlus did cancel accounts with prepaid phones. Now they are saying they will not cancel anybody. The Checker is actually from Sprint. RingPlus has no control over it nor can they see any of the details.

Q: I am not too technical and just want to get a phone that works with RingPlus. Does RingPlus sell phones?
A: Yes. https://store.ringplus.net/ Phones are a bit old & shipping is on the high side.

Q: Is signing up during the promo periods like Black Friday where the website grinds to a halt?
A: In 2013, that was often the case. So far in 2015, there have been no reported issues like that. Of course, it does not hurt to already be registered and ready to enter your info when a promo starts.

Q: I just signed up. What do I need to do to get the phone to work?
A: Look in your dashboard for instructions. You will need to edit the MDN (10 digit phone number) & MSID (account) on the phone. You might need to update the PRL as well.

Q: I cannot verify Google Voice.
A: Known issue that is being worked on. Some folks have gotten it to work after continuously reentering the verification code.
https://discourse.ringplus.net/t/...ng/3784/15

Q: Any other services like Google Voice where I can park my real number in case I want to change services later on?
A: https://ring.to/

Q: Can I change phones (ESN Swap) on my account?
A: Yes. Cost is 99 cents. https://discourse.ringplus.net/t/...evice/3538

Q: Is wifi calling supported?
A: Yes, but you use your minutes even if calls are made with a sip app
https://ringplus.net/details/

Q: I heard there are call-in apps that cost money? Is it easy to get charged for them?
A: In-call apps such as Translator and Recall are activated when the user hits ** + Number during the call. Accidently activating a in-call app is unlikely.

Q: How do I check usage?
A: Via website or Android app https://play.google.com/store/app...oard&hl=en

Q: I just noticed if a voicemail is left on either my LG Volt or Kyocera Hydro, I don't really get a notification that I have a voicemail unless I turn on the SMS notification.
A: RingPlus doesn't support normal voicemail notifications. You can only set up notification via SMS or email. If you want normal voicemail status icons on your phone, you can install the R+Notifications https://play.google.com/store/app...ifications app made by SD member hungrypost. FYI, you'll still need to have SMS Notifications turned on in order to use the app. See app for details.

Q: Do SMS voicemail notifications count against your monthly limit?
A: No, not anymore. They used to, but RingPlus changed their system so that all text messages sent by RingPlus (the company) are now free. This also include those text messages you get if you press '5' during a ringback advertisement.

Q: Other than changing the ringback tone Radio Station, what are some of the other Dashboard features?
A: Call filter (blacklist and whitelist), Service filters (disable sms, mms, data for certain periods of the day), Enable or Disable (sms, mms, data, and roaming), Change phone number (99 cents), Swap Phones (99 cents), and play your voice mail.

Q: How much is mms (picture messaging)
A: 4 Cents each.

Q: How much is roaming?
A: 14 cents a minute, 55 cents per megabyte. Good to have but too expensive to use everyday. You would need to link a bank account to Zipmark. This means that users have to go out of their way to setup up roaming before it works.

UPDATED 10/14/15 Roaming Registration Advisory:

Q. Can you roam to non-Sprint towers such as Verizon?

Roaming can provide coverage in areas where Sprint coverage is too weak to connect. For example, you could roam to a Verizon tower when a Sprint tower was not in the area. With RingPlus, you have to register through another company to enable roaming. Charges are 14 cents a minute, 55 cents per megabyte, so avoiding roaming calls and disabling data roaming on your phone are highly recommended.

To enable roaming, you have to link your checking account to Zipmark, so be aware of the extensive personal information they require, which should be a concern to anyone in this day and age of identity theft and the ordeal that can get you into for the rest of your life.

They require:
  • 1) Real name
  • 2) Drivers license number
  • 3) Last 4 of your Social Security number (worse than you think)
  • 4) Checking account number
  • 5) Birth date

UPDATED 10/12/15 with Swapping and Tethering tips. Feel free to contribute.
Quote :
Goal - swap 2 phones between 2 plans with aid of a 3rd phone or ESN which is inactive, and swapping can be done immediately without a waiting period. First make sure your RingPlus balance on each plan has enough to cover the swaps. In this example $2 on Plan A, $1 on Plan B. The plans do not have to be on the same RingPlus account.

Plan A - has Phone A
Plan B - has Phone B
Phone C is an inactive Phone or ESN

1) Plan A - swap from Phone A to Phone C
2) Plan B -swap from Phone B to Phone A
3) Plan A - swap from Phone C to Phone B
4) Phone C is back to being inactive

*Each of the 3 device swaps costs 99 cents each, so it costs about $3 to complete a three way swap as shown.

Canceling a free line ties up the phone until the next billing cycle if you are trying to activate a NEW free line with the phone, just as if the phone was swapped out of a free plan. Doing a device swap on a different free plan to the phone from the canceled free plan works immediately..
Tethering on Phase 9 works with the following phones:
VM Lumia 635: stock, native hotspot menu for wifi sharing.

Registration starts at Sunday (September. 13th, 2015) after the 5th Avenue Mile Run for Life at 9am PDT and closes at 5pm PDT. You can sign up at ringplus.net, and get info and phones in the RingPlus Store!

The current Free Plan has 200 minutes, 50 texts, and 10 MB of LTE data. Although a credit card is necessary to sign up for this Plan, RingPlus will never charge the card on file unless the RingPlus Member chooses to top up his or her account to get a greater allotment of talk, text, and data. The plan will just stop working when the Member runs out of their allotment of talk, text, and data which will be automatically replenished the next month based on the day they joined RingPlus. This Plan does not require a top up balance.

You may also have to reset the phone.

the CEO just posted at FW :You'll only be charged if you top up your account. If you have a top-up balance, it would automatically deduct from that balance, but any overages are never charged automatically to an external funding source. That make sense?

Basically, you'll never be charged unless you put money on the account specifically for that purpose.

No activation fee.
On newer (2012? Onward) Android phones if you have ROOTED the phone and renamed LGDMSCLIENT.apk (Which is tied into/is the Handsfree Activation app that will pop up upon each reboot of a non-activated phone) you will have to restore it back.
If you have deleted it.. you'll need to find a copy... most likely.

On the plus side, you get free hotspot tethering, and you can add a Gig for $8/ Month.

500 MB is the same amount of data as Future Phase 9.

Future 1, 2, and 3 were all 1000/1000/1000 with the same $5 top up. However, none included hotspot tether. RingPlus keeps offering different promos and mixing things up. Different promos appeal to different people.

As I just posted, it was exactly the same for allotments and top up as Phase 2 and 3. The top up wasn't increased to $10 until Phase 4.

True dat. Unlimited 1st week is a strange offer. Might appeal to ppl who make most of their shady phone calls and texts in that window. I guess Next Gen Plan 4 would be unlimited fourth week? Stick Out Tongue

And unlimited R+ to R+ continues, so I it looks like they're wanting you to get all your friends and family on RingPlus to take advantage of continued unlimited voice/text. laugh out loud

Good news for everyone who has been wanting to get an LG Volt for $40. The dead Groupon deal from last weekend is alive again:

https://www.groupon.com/deals/gg-...for-sprint

Sprint Pre-paid LG Volt $40 Free Shipping

A favorite among many RingPlus members.

The first thing on the requirements should be "a free and clear sprint cellphone when you want to register".

Basically you need to have a sprint phone laying around between the hours the promo happens. You can't register then get a phone later. That's the most confusing part of ring plus amongst other things like not knowing when the service ends or why "new" customers are treated so royally. I feel like once I sign up I will miss out on the next better promotion that's for new customers only.

But add a Gig was already $8/mo and all the plans support tethering

edit: although some don't support "native" tethering

Also, you can get a cheap flip phone, an ESN, even from a dead phone as a placeholder and swap for 99 cents later when you get a good phone.

RingPlus did upgrade current members to the 1000/1000/1000 plan if they had signed up on the upgrade list prior to October 12, so there's still hope for us current members who want to upgrade.

Hotspot tethering wasn't included until Phase 9 with the same data as this plan. That was the new perk that added with that phase. I actually got in on it, albeit at the loss of some data vs. previous Future plans.
