Hello,
I am hoping you could determine what the problem on my wine fridge might be.
Make and Model: Vinotemp VT-60
Production #: VT60CU05093753

Problem: I've owned it since around 2005/2006 and it worked fine until last summer (2011) it stopped getting cold. The fan runs but the compressor doesn't run. I hear a periodic clicking noise. The click will have another click about 15 seconds after it, then it will take a couple minutes before another set of clicks happens.

This is a troubleshooting guide [vinotemp.com]by Vinotemp. I see Vinotemp sells a replacement control board [vinotemp.com] but I don't know if the board is bad.

see if you can get voltage after the overload protector. you could jump the compressor bypassing the protector for a test. the last small frig i looked at had a bad protector. i took it apart and found a small quarter size disk about 1/8 thick that was rusted and wouldnt make the connection to send power on to the compressor. I dont remember if it was clicking or not. i wouldnt think the starter comes into play until after the compressor has been running. still need to make sure power is making it past these 2 items

Maytag Plus Refrigerator (side by side, Model MSD2756AE) is leaking water from the freezer all over the floor about once a week. Any ideas as to whether we can fix this ourselves? I'm guessing the drain is clogged since we had a technician in to fix that about five years ago. He had some kind of a bucket shop-vac and suctioned it and then placed a cap (small amount) of bleach in the drain. The fridge is 12 years old. Thanks

Can anyone recommend a good brand for a gas range? My old die but it lasted almost 20 years. I think the bran is Caloric and it does not seem that they make it anymore.

I read Consumer Reports and JD Power. Their information conflicts so its hard to see what is a good brand. I cannot afford the expensive top of the line. Something less than $700. Can be black or stainless.

From my research, it appears that Kenmore, GE, Frigidaire are the best. Whirlpool seems to be OK. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This isn't a problem, just a curiosity. My washer and dryer were plugged into a two outlet box. The Verizon guy installs a FIOS box that need A/C so he unplugs the W & D and plugs the FIOS box into one of the outlets, plugs a power strip into the other outlet, and plus the W & D into the power strip. After he leaves the W & D don't work. The power strip is good. I even tried another power strip but the W & D only work if they are plugged directly into the outlet box. How do the W & D know that they are plugged into a power strip, and why don't they work?

The compressor (or whatever the mini propane tank looking thing) in the back does get warm when it's plugged in. Obviously its not worth much and might not be worth fixing but if its something cheap I was hoping you could help me out. Freon?

check to see that you get voltage after the starter and overload. I think the starter is crap. If I'm not mistaking it has a round disk inside. It can corrode or break and not make a connection. I fixed one once by a light sanding on both sides.

So put the multimeter on AC, black to ground and red to back probe the connection at the starter and overload? Should read 120v?

probe to
white and black =120
white and red = 120 as long as t-stat is turned on/up
white and red after overload protector ( C ) =120

when you first turn the unit on
black to S =120
black to M =120

I guess I am not familiar with using a DMM on anything other than my car. Care to explain a little further?

When I plugged it in earlier to kind of probe around I noticed it was clicking like a relay or solenoid was trying to turn on and off.

I would say thanks to you for this online assistance. It sounds great. Please tell me why ceiling fan produce noises while switching in ON. One of my ceiling fan is irritating me a lot. I just purchased it 6 months ago. I am thinking to replace it. It's local company brand. Can this issue be resolved by changing any part inside it? Thank you once again.

no parts to change inside
did something get dropped inside when installing?
did a blade come loose and rubbing the side
does it make the noise if you spin it without it being on

Whirlpool side by side refrigerator Model ED25RQ.

I noticed yesterday what seemed to be a smell coming from the freezer. Then today, I noticed it is very warm in the freezer. Ice cream is more like soft serve, and buns are not completely frozen. I have not heard the freezer running.

Just now, I unplugged the the unit for about 5 minutes, then plugged it back in. The freezer seemed to turn on. I'll check in a couple hours to see if everything is frozen again. Any thoughts as to what could have caused this? Something need to be replaced? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
