I was browsing Target looking for any leftover N*xus Player deals when I came across a couple of Nest 2nd Generation Thermostats on clearance for 70% off. One was in the electronics clearance shelf, another in the housewares clearance shelf (near storage totes), and a third and final in the automotive section (why??).

I cleared out this location (Crestwood, IL), but if you're in a Target over the weekend why not stop by the clearance racks and see if you can pick one up? It appeared to me that the 3rd (current) generation devices are full price, while older models are being moved at a great discount.

ComEd (electric provider) in Illinois offers a $100 rebate for the installation of a Nest, [comed.com] so this is a MM for me! I'm betting other states and providers offer similar rebates, just google it.

Will Gen 2 work with Wink? According to comp tables in this article it will, but not sure:

AdyM, I connected it to my Wink hub earlier today, but I'm using the Wink rooted with OpenHAB so I'm not positive it will connect to a stock unit.

BUT, the picture on the Wink website is of a Generation 2 unit, [wink.com]so that's a good sign! Also, if you can't connect it you can always throw it on eBay - they're worth more than $80.

I got one at my local target Monday. It was odd because I'd looked before months ago but the imei number showed none in stock within 100 miles then boom there was one Monday. Had to go price adjust it at a nearby target for the clearance price right after I bought it, though.
