Is there a place for free web hosting, I do not mind an add on top of page.. preferably not though.

Before when I had godaddy, they had free web hosting so just looking for simple (won't use much data) more to practice how a site should look (personal site) , like a hobby.

What features are you looking for in a web host?

Do you want to upload your own html, or are you looking for a site with a built in page builder?
Do you need server side scripting (php, sql, etc...), or just static html?

I can't personally vouch for most of these, but wikipedia has a list of free webhosts: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Com...g_services

Your ISP also may offer you something, depending on your plan.

I just have a domain that I want to utilize as a hobby. I know some html so like before I would just use cpanel or ftp to upload html files.

I do not recommend any of these. If you want to use it as a hobby, it's ok.

If you actually want to host something on the internet for free or very low cost that other people can access, pointing your domain to google sites or a wordpress.com account is probably the best option. These options limit your ability to edit/control your site.

If your objective is to learn about web development teaching yourself html, css, javasrcipt, php, etc you're better off just keeping it local on your own computer using WAMP or similar.

No. I don't think a pre-packaged WAMP install should ever be used in a production environment exposed to the internet. I'm saying if you're just trying to learn how to create a webpage you don't actually have to put anything on the internet at all.

It would be local, not accessible outside his network. Assuming he has a NAT router he just doesn't punch the holes in the router and he is fine.

Taking into consideration my experience, I'd like to advise you spend some money (15-20 usd anlually is enough) to have simple hosting. You'll have all general options you need.

I used 000webhost and it worked well. I was the only one that was ever accessing the site though...
