Converting OST to PST File

calvinbrid07 1 10 October 29, 2015 at 01:46 AM
I have a users old OST file that I need to convert to a PST file so I can search for missing emails. Or any other way that would enable me to perform this task. Uses Outlook 2007.

I've used OST Viewer, or something similar to be able to read mail from a ost.
Make sure you get a copy of the OST before trying, in case it messes up.
I was able to open a 50gb OST, that was an old one, after archiving F'd it up (didn't archive, but removed from server)
They opened up as EML messages, which were a pain.
Hope this helps

Please add more information. Is your user upgrading from Office 2003 to 2007 or what are we doing here? You have 2007 and are upgrading to something newer than that? There are different ways to do it depending on what version you started with and what version the user has now.

There are several methods to convert OST file to PST file.

First, Microsoft does not provide an official tool to do the conversion. However, if you can access the contents of the OST file in your Outlook, then you can perform the conversion manually, as follows:

1. Start Outlook. Make sure you can access all the contents in the OST file to be converted.
2. Create a new PST file.
3. Go to the OST file, select and copy all the contents to be converted with your mouse.
4. Go back to the new PST file, then paste all the contents into the PST file

That will do the conversion.

You can also perform the conversion by export the contents of the OST file to a PST file by following the instructions at:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-00...34110.aspx

Second, if you can access the Exchange server containing the account data for the OST file, then you can use Export-Mailbox command to export the data into a PST file, similar to convert your OST file into a PST file. Below is the article about doing that:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-u...66964.aspx
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-u...35123.aspx

Third, if you cannot access the OST file via Outlook, neither can you access the Exchange Server, then you can use third-party OST to PST conversion tools. There are many you can try, below is a list of them:

Nearly all these tools provide a free trial so you can try first to see if a tool works before purchase it.

Good luck!

Yes.. You can get back your all lost or inaccessible OST file data in workable PST format using third party Kernel for OST to PST tool. This tool allows you to recover and convert MS Outlook OST file data into Outlook PST format. To know more:- http://www.scanost.com
