Post-Halloween cheap candy guide?

js_fin 247 50 October 31, 2015 at 03:58 PM
Hi, I would like to buy a lot of candy after Halloween, because supposedly there are crazy deals then as stores try to get rid of their excess stock.

But how do I know if something is on sale? If I walk into a store, what are the indicators it's part of the post-halloween candy liquidation? I have Target, Walmart, Costco, CVS.

Do I wait until the day after Halloween (tomorrow)? A few days? A week? Obviously the longer I wait the less selection there will be, but if they don't re-shelf with the sale prices until a week later, going in before then is not of interest.

It's usually up to the manager of your local stores. For example, last year the Target closest to me went to 30% off on Halloween, 75% off on Nov. 2nd and 90% by Nov. 4th for food items. The next closest one took a week to go to 75% and then salvaged out without dropping any further. I don't know about Costco but the others will usually leave the seasonal stuff where it is for a couple of days and then move it to the clearance section of the store as the volume decreases. CVS only adjusts its prices once a week, usually Tuesday or Thursday. So if you know what day they update their system, you only have to pop in once a week to check prices.

And always scan to double check the price. Sometimes the signs state the lowest percentage off of any item like 15% off when there could be something, particularly food, in that section for 90% off.

all stores seem to slap on a clearance sign but charge the same or even more than it was on sale for a few days before. That magical clearance sign gets people to buy up the good stuff immediately.

Where are the online deals? There were a surplus amount of deals last year and I can't find one today.

today is Nov 1, just went to 2 Targets near my house, only 30% off candy so far.
Hope tomorrow Nov 2, they are 75% off.
