How to carrier unlock phone (you will need a non AT&T micro-sim):
1. Don't power up the phone with the provided AT&T sim card.
2. Go to https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/#/
3. Read and agree to requirements
4. Select Customer Type: Non-AT&T Mobility customer
5. Complete and submit the form (IMEI is on the bottom of the package, among other places)
6. Immediately open the email from AT&T and follow the instructions, clicking the provided link
7. Wait 24 to 48 hours and check for a 2nd email from AT&T with your unlock code and follow the instructions. (for several people, this has taken 24 hours)
8. Enjoy

Phone Facts
No hardware buttons on front (uses stock android style on-screen buttons)
No indicator/message/charging LED
No flash on camera
Camera is 5mp
1GB RAM
8GB Built-in storage
AT&T model cannot be bootloader unlocked for free by motorola
Moto E will not get Android 6.0 update (marshmallow)
T-Mobile Band 12 disabled by 5.1 update

Better than that ZTE Maven for $39? ZTE seems to have better specs.

. . . seems BB's descriptions are not accurate.

It's funny you ask, I had exact same question. Anyone? I need an att phone for a couple weeks so I wanted to know which of these so better for the price

I don't know, I googled the ZTE and specs I see at CNET and other sites are not the same as those on BB. I think it only has 1GB ram, not 2; and it seems to be a 1.2 rather than a 1.5.

Still seem like decent GSM phones for $40 though.

After checking AT&T website and the spec, I'd say this is definitely the 2nd gen. AT&T is selling it for $60 on their website.
The 1st gen Moto E: Snapdragon 200, 4GB storage, 4.3" screen and 1980 mAh
The 2nd gen Moto E: Snapdragon 410, 8gb internal, 4.5 screen and 2390 mAh

I've used two LG G Pad 7 version with Snapdragon 400 and 410, the 410 64bit chip is a noticeable improvement. (The ZTE phone mentioned uses 400).

I would definitely get Moto phones over ZTE. Motorola have good build quality (+water resistant) and great signals. I have opened Moto and ZTE phones, ZTE internals are very cheap.

The question really is if it's worth it to buy and pay for cost for unlocking, and no I would never sign up for anything with AT&T.

Snapdragon 410 and LTE would suggest this is the 2nd generation unit.

Moto use stock Android and with the Snapdragon 410 it will feel smooth and less bloatwares. The Snapdragon 410 is a noticeable improvement over the 400.
This is 4G LTE gen 2 based on specs: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/M...generation)

Comparing Motorola Moto E (2nd gen) and ZTE Maven
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.p...hone2=7355

Seems like there are gives and takes. The Moto E has a 540x960 qHD(quarter HD) screen while the Maven has 480x854. The maven has an LED flash on the camera. The Moto E has a Snapdragon 410 while the Maven has a 400.

If I were to choose one for myself I'd buy the Moto E.

Yeah, BB's page is wrong. Looked way better til I saw the real specs.

Thanks for info.

For those on AT&T MVNOs, no unlocking necessary - GoPhones should work right out the box.

ZTE is no match for the E IMO. My son has the ZTE now, and I had an E for a couple of months. Aside from the lack of a flash, the E just feels better all around.

I'd say the Moto is the way to go. I've had several Moto phones and they are great. Great customer service as well.
